𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐓𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐇𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐀𝐍 𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐓𝐘. People going from shop-to-shop with bags upon bags weighing their arms down. Women with phones pressed to their ears and men in business suits with briefcases and emotionless faces. There were teens skateboarding and biking around, while children walked their dogs with their parents, enjoying the months of summer vacation.

Toni sucked in a breath of the summer air and threw her head back, basking in the sunlight. Turning down another block, she weaved her way through the busy sidewalks and streets, apologizing to people when she tripped them or bumped into them and giving sweet smiles to those who apologized to her for bumping into her.

Percy's high school orientation would be over soon, and then they would go to their movie. Toni was well aware of the dove currently flying above her, keeping a watchful eye on her every move. She swore that her life was like some sort of reality show for her mother. The goddess was practically waiting with bated breath for both Antoinette and Perseus to come together (finally) and accept their fated feelings for one another. (Much to the dismay of her daughter.)

Toni had nearly had a heart attack when her mother had appeared in her dream the night before, squealing happily about her "daughter's first date!" The De Noir then spent most of the night explaining that it was just the two of them hanging out, and that she was still unsure of her feelings towards Percy and vice versa. Aphrodite, however, had been very adamant about Toni and Percy being fated for each other and that they both felt something but were scared to admit it. (Which was true, but like Hell either would admit that.)

Despite visiting Manhattan once or twice, Toni didn't get as lost as she thought she would. She followed the directions that Sally Jackson had given her after her short visit to the apartment (Sally was just begging to see the girl once more) and soon found herself walking the road that the high school was on.

The smell of smoke brought her to a stop.

Looking up from the paper, Toni's eyes widened. Ahead of her, right where the supposed high school stood, was the largest cloud of black smoke she'd seen in recent years. It bubbled from behind the buildings, winding its way into the clear blue sky like a snake of sorts. Toni's brows furrowed, heart racing at the sound of sirens.

She looked to the road, spotting three cop cars and four fire trucks, as well as two ambulances, speeding toward the smoke.

What the Hades was going on over there?
