"What do you think about a suit for tonight? Or should we rent some tuxes?" Kurtis said, buttoning his white collared shirt in the bathroom mirror. He peeked his head around the corner of the door. "You listening, Danny?"
"Hm?" his friend said, coming out to meet Kurtis in the hallway, clad in a pair of blue jeans and a striped polo. "How do I look?" he asked nervously, more conscious of his outfit now that he saw his roommate's button down and dark red slacks.
Kurtis looked him up and down before turning back to the mirror to comb through the mullet he had gotten cut earlier that day with his fingers. He was still getting used to the length, but it felt so much better than the long hair he had been growing out the past year and a half. Things were changing, and it was time he changed with them. "You look nice. I like the stripes." Kurtis grabbed his maroon suit jacket and pulled it on over his outfit. "You ready?"
Danny hesitated before chucking a nervous response. "Well, I got nothing left to lose."
Kurtis raised his eyebrow, easily spotting Danny's hesitance.
Danny let out an anxious breath before telling his friend what had been going through his head. "Are you sure we're doing the right thing? I mean, we have a really vague plan made by some omnipotent being who's sick of writing this god forsaken story and just wants to sleep. There's a lot of things we didn't even stop to think about. What if this is just a ploy to kidnap us? It's extremely likely to work and-"
"Danny, calm down-"
"What if everything just falls apart? What if-"
"Dan-"
"Oh god, what if he spits when he talks?"
"DANNY!" They both fell silent. Kurtis put his hand on Danny's shoulder who looked up at him. "I think I know just what you need," he said with a sly smile that prompted Danny to gulp.
....
Kurtis was knee deep in the clothes Danny had thrown about his room, laid sporadically on the floor when he had tried to get dressed after their eventful breakfast that morning. Danny looked at his friend who was frantically digging in his closet. For what, he couldn't tell.
"Uh Kurtis?" he said.
"One... second," Kurtis grunted without looking up from the pile. He dove headfirst into his roommate's closet before emerging with a bag triumphantly. "Ah hah!" He trudged through the pile and placed the bag on his bed. "I knew we had this stowed away somewhere."
Danny opened the bag and pulled out the suit before looking back to his friend's disheveled appearance. So much for combing his hair, he thought. He turned back to the outfit laid out on the bed. "I completely forgot we had this." He went to hold it up in the mirror.
Kurtis came into view and stood behind him, putting his hands on his friend's shoulders. "Oh yeah. This is the one."
...
With the aid of the GPS in their beaten up Honda, the two finally arrived at the coordinates they had been given. They only made a few wrong turns (Kurtis refusing to stop for directions), but were now headed down a dark path outside the city. With no lights to illuminate the otherwise desolate road, the headlights on their car offered the only brightness within a five mile radius.
"Um, are you sure you typed in the address right? It's just a road," questioned Danny.
Kurtis shrugged and made an 'I don't know' mumble.
