So it began; Steve went off selling bonds, Bucky was still on the front lines, Beth stayed home and worked walking her usual route being a woman of routine, and Peggy did as Steev asked in her free tie she checked on Beth and the two eventually became the best of friends, a month passed and then a second month. Beth had a little more knowledge of Hydra and kept to herself thanks to Peggy helping her learn to study her surroundings and to use a gun. A knock came on her door one day she didn't expect any visitors, having her hair up in a ponytail she cautiously moved to the door seeing a familiar face. Peggy stood outside holding a comic in her hand.

Opening the door Beth grinned wide watching the woman waltz in. "Can you believe this?" Peggy said before turning to greet her. "What is it now?" Beth asked. Seeing the comic she began to cackle and grin. "is that--what I think it is?" She asked. "It's worse, much worse." Peggy said. She handed the book to Beth. "I think you're being dramatic just a tad. Lemme look." Beth opened the comic and smiled seeing the new American hero known as Captain America, she knew it was based on Steve and couldn't help but enjoy the irony. "He wanted to make a change I don't think this is how he imagined it, all that power and strength and they have him doing shows and pictures and this--what is this for even?" Beth asked turning the pages. "It's a mockery." Peggy announced sitting down.

"Tea?" Beth offered. "Yes, please. Still have the blend I brought last time?" Peggy asked. "Of course, I would like a new one next time though, if it isn't too much trouble." Beth requested, hearing her loud and clear Peggy gave a nod. "It's hard to imagine Steve lived here most of his life." Peggy mentioned in a moment of recollection fro the stories Beth shared with her. "Yeah well, now it's mine I guess. I pay the tax and groceries. I still have his and Bucky's letters when they first started out now I get nothing." Beth mentioned. "Could I look at them?" Peggy asked. "I'll do you one better, keep them for me so it's safe. I'm sure Steve would like to read them again as well so maybe pass them along if you ever get a moment with him." Beth mused.

"I'll need the chest then." Peggy said. "Of course, I must have mentioned it so much I do apologize, I need to go in for my shift soon so after tea I will have to leave and lock up." Beth was working on the tea when she left the water boiling on the cooktop in the kitchen she walked into the bedroom and retrieved her chest filled with letters she received but also ones she didn't send. "I may have been writing nightly as a way to express my worries and doubts. Those letters are more personal if you get the chance please give them to Steve and Bucky." Beth requested hearing the water boil her hearing was excellent. "Of course darling, I will be sure he gets them. I'm not sure how Bucky is doing but I'm sure he is doing his best." Peggy mused.

The girls had their tea and gossiped about how ridiculous Steve was being treated, they laughed and squealed at his spandex suit and the cringy Adolf punch was in his show. He was being used as a marketing label and he deserved to do more than be a face for the war. The 50s were approaching which meant a new era and hopefully an end to this war it was only 1943 but it still felt like the year was passing quickly. "I must be going now sadly, I'm making a stop along the way. I will keep these safe for you. Until next time be vigilant and don't let anybody in your home." Peggy stood brushing down her skirt, Beth finished off her tea, she stood as well needing to head out. "It was lovely to see you again, I hope next visit will be longer." Beth mused holding out her hands. "Likewise I will do my best, but for now the war calls until it ends I'm afraid my days are planned for me. After all, men can't do all the work." Peggy chuckled out hugging Beth, Beth returned the hug giving a warm smile.

"Look after him for me, won't you? He needs someone in his corner." Beth gave her a request, Peggy gave her an understanding smile agreeing with a nod. "I'll do my best, take care." Peggy parted ways carrying out the wooden chest, Beth felt like parts of her heart were leaving but she knew time would bring them together she just didn't know how long it would take. Cleaning the dishes in the sink and getting dressed she turned off all the lights locking up for her shift, strolling outside she locked the door then bounced down the steps. Memories of the boys filled her mind; she giggled looking back at the stairs when they tried to move the new sofa in, she continued her stroll down the sidewalk and smiled passing the diner they first went to together, walking further she rubbed her arms feeling a little cold she stopped at an alley remembering the time she saw Bucky after he got back in town for one night, continuing on she saw another alley having to walk through she remember their first time meeting when her hat fell off. They were kids back then now they were adults facing the world.
