Chapter 2

Day 2 - Ardor in the Cold (Jealousy / Nanda Parbat)

"Where are you running to?" Damian asked, floating into the room that his mate ran into and sealing the door behind him. For the last few nights, instead of enjoying the feel of warm skins and the sounds of airy moans, he had been spending his time chasing a reluctant mate.

He was irritated, excited, and intrigued.

He never knew that the dream state realm could be as vast as their reality. He thought only one room occupied the dream state realm, but because of her attempts to escape, he had learned new information about the dream state. Yet he preferred if she would remain in their bedroom instead of the corridors of Nanda Parbat.

He dropped to the floor and walked down the main row of the library. It had been over half a decade since he had been in this room. Other important matters had taken his focus away from his pastime. Hopefully, once everything was over, he would enjoy the luxury of reading again.

"Beloved," he called out, with glowing green eyes. They saw past the bookshelves, and the tapetum lucidum in his eyes allowed him to see in the dark. His abilities were the reason he had been able to locate her every single night, despite her excellent attempt to hide.

"Do you like to read?" He moved away from her location, wanting to give her a false sense of hope.

He continued. "When you arrive here, you can read to your heart's content... when you aren't entertaining me."

He climbed the stairs to the second landing; his eyes remained on her. The scowl on her face, which appeared after his comment, was cute.

He strolled the second landing, moving alongside the banister while heading towards her. "If there is anything that you desire, I will give it to you. All you have to do is ask."

She didn't reply. She was focused on her escape. He smirked, loving the fact that his mate never gave up, despite being at a disadvantage and failing several nights in a row, despite his annoyance with her.

With great stealth, he jumped over the banister, floated back to the first floor, and raced towards her. Before she could react, she was pinned against a bookshelf. Books fell around them onto the floor.

"Is there nothing that you don't desire?" He asked, licking her nape. She tasted delicious.

"Yes, for you to let me go." She growled as her eyes glowed red in the hazy fog that covered her face.

He was certain that if she could use her powers, whatever they may be, she would have stabbed a sword through his heart. But it wouldn't have mattered if she could. A sword wouldn't kill or wound him in the dream state.

Only one thing could. And only he and his parents knew what it was. After all, his mother only discovered it after she had murdered her mate in the dream state.

"I can't let you go. You're my mate. You belong to me." He whispered along her neck, where he intended to bite her, but he couldn't yet, not in the dream state.

"I belong to myself. Now, let me go." She struggled against him.

"Since the first drop of the Liminal Liquid that I had poured on your body, you ceased to belong to yourself."

He felt her heart pound against his chest and tasted anxiety along her skin.

"What is Liminal Liquid?"

"It's another secret that I cannot reveal to you. But once you become my bonded mate, I will reveal all that I can to you."

"I will never become your mate—I'm in love with someone else."
