We lock eyes, standing only a few feet away from each other.
What should I do now? I can't run, he got a good look at my face. Maybe I should just act really casual, l'm sure he's just a guard or something. Yeah that's what I'm going to do.
"Hey! " I shout. "I was just taking a walk and saw you here. Nothing weird." I say as I come closer to him.
"Okay?" He replies with a little confusion. "Oh, are you one of the new maids at the palace?"
"Yes I am, My name is Julia. What's yours?" I blurt out.
"Wait, you don't kno- oh never mind. My name is um Revilo." That was a little weird of him.
"Nice to meet you Revilo." I say swaying back and forth.
"Thanks. You too." He replies. "Would you like to sit?"
"Sure... So do you come here often?" I ask as I sit down next to him.
"Yeah I come here to relax, because sometimes it gets quite stressful at home." He replies.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that." I say with meaning.
"It's okay." He replies.
"Hey Julia, would you like to do something fun?" He asks cheekily.
"Well, I still have some time left before I have to go back, so I guess so. What did you have in mind?"
"Follow me and you'll see. I want to show you what I like to do when I'm bored."
He then gets up, takes my hand and starts running back to the woods. We get to a tree that's pretty close to the palace, but is still mostly covered my other trees. We then start climbing it, till we are quite high up. Then he stops at one branch and sits on it. "Come sit next to me."
As I get to the branch and sit near him I ask, "So, what are we doing here?"
"Shhhhh, we don't want them to hear us." He replies
"Who?" I whisper.
"Look over there, do you see them now?" He asks me whilst pointing to the lower right.
"There's a little opening in the branches where you can see two people. A man and a woman. The one looks like Miss April, but I'm not sure who the man is."
"Is that Miss April?" I ask.
"Yes, and the man is Nathaniel Brutus, he's one of the generals." Revilo says.
"Oh my gosh! Are they kissing??"
"Yeah they always come here to be alone."
We both start laughing, because she's always so serious but with him she's a completely different person.
"What was that?" Miss April asks.
"What is it darling?" General Nathaniel responds.
"Don't you hear something in the bushes?"
"Who's there!" he shouts.
"Oh no, I think we better go now." Revilo says whilst helping me down the tree. We both start running as soon as we get off the tree. We stop when we're a good distance away, to catch our breaths.
"That was crazy! Do you think we are safe now?" I ask.
"Yeah, they won't come all this way." He responds while panting.
The sun is getting lower in the sky now. As I quickly check my watch, I see that it's 4:40. "Well, I must be going now, I wouldn't want to get in trouble on my first day. I hope we can meet soon." I tell him.
"Yeah, I'm sure we will." He replies squeezeing my arm. "Thanks for making my day a lot more enjoyable, Julia." He continues with a smile plastered on his face.
"You're welcome, I had fun today." I wave goodbye as I walk back to the palace.
When I arrive I hurry to my room to quickly freshen up. Once I'm done I go down stairs to meet Miss April waiting for me.
"You're almost late!" She say as she leads me to the kitchen. We enter the kitchen and it is very busy with all the cooking that needs to be done for dinner. We walk past the people working, and come out of out the door leading to the dining area. As we enter there is no one but a few maids waiting. She tells me to stand on the other side of the table where there is a bucket with champagne near wear the prince will sit. I stand there waiting for a minute or two.
Then the The Royal Family starts to enter. First the King, then the Queen, and lastly the two Prince's enter. As the younger one gets out of the way, I see the oldest. THEN IT HITS ME like a ton of rocks.
It's Revilo!
HE is Prince Oliver? He lied to me and pretended he was someone else. I try to hide my shock. We make eye contact, so I quickly look down, not wanting to face him. He takes his seat and Miss April motions me to serve the champagne. I can't do this. I want to get out of here. But I know I have to face him. I walk to him with resistance, every step being harder then the previous. As I finish pouring the champagne, he looks up at me with a smirk and says, "Thank you." I want to punch him.
I nod at him and move back to my place. OH NO. It just dawned on me that I'm not just any maid, I'm his personal one. Could thinks get any worse? Dinner goes by, and I managed not to do too much. Once it's done Miss April tells me to escort Prince Oliver to his room. He gets up and starts walking for the exit. I follow him. We get to the hallway with our rooms. No one is there, he stops and turns around.
"Well, I was waiting for you to find out. You should of seen the look on your face." he says whilst laughing.
"I don't get it, you said your name was Revilo. Why didn't you tell me who you really are?" I say trying to stay quiet.
"Well most people know who I am and seeing that you didn't, it was just too fun to leave it that way. And I technically didn't lie about my name, Revilo is Oliver backwards."
"Wow, that makes it so much better." I say, my voice dripping with sarcasm. "Just forget that we met earlier, Okay? I continue and lean on the wall with my arms crossed.
"I don't think so," he answers.
"What? Why not?"
"I think you forgot that I'm the Prince, " he says while placing his arm on the wall and leans over me. "And at the end of the day you have to listen to me," he whispers with a smile.
He got me there. As he looks me in the eyes and I get this weird feeling that I never felt before. What is it?
I move away and ask "Aren't you going to bed now?"
"Yeah, see you tomorrow Julia. Goodnight." He says and goes to his room.
I go to my room and plop on the bed. What am I doing? I can't be making friends with the guy I'm supposed to kill! And to add on to my stress, tomorrow the other kingdoms are coming. I need to stay focused and get the job done. I take a bath and go to bed. Tomorrow is a big day.
