prologue !

THERE WAS NOTHING SAMIRA RAE SCOTT HATED MORE THAN CHEATERS.

she had always told herself she was way too smart to get played. yet here she was, against her better judgement, holding back tears as her soon-to-be ex boyfriend spoke to her on the phone.

she had, in fact, gotten played.

he was, in fact, a cheater.

and yes, she was trying really hard not to forgive him right now.

"samira, please."

"chase, i'm not doing this with you right now."

she sighed, trying to keep her voice firm despite it cracking from the incoming desire to cry.

truth be told, samirah was tired of this.

tired was an understatement.

samira was exhausted from having to relive this cycle of getting hurt. although the internet didn't know it yet, she and chase hudson had been dating for almost six months. over the half year period, he had cheated two times already. it was only a few hours prior in the day that mira had found out about chase's most recent side piece.

above all, samira was embarrassed — embarrassed that everybody told her to drop him after the first two times, but she didn't listen. she defended him each and every time. and he repaid her by proving everyone right and cheating again just like they had said he would. he'd humiliated her by getting with another girl for the third time while they were dating.

as soon as she'd seen the video circulating of him and his new "rumored girlfriend", (that's what the internet had called the brunette girl in the fuzzy looking video) samira sent him a curt text telling him that they were done. for real this time.

that was a few hours ago, which is also when the endless bombardment of phone calls and texts began. samira refused to give in to his apology attempts, deciding instead to put her phone on do not disturb then go to bed early and drown in her own self deprecating thoughts while crying herself to sleep.

although she quickly realized that wasn't a good idea. she was likely to find her face swollen and eyes the size of golf balls upon waking up.

a few hours later though, she ultimately found herself still wide awake in the dead of night. time wasn't passing fast enough. her boredom led her to go onto her phone to pass the time.

and of course, all it took was one more phone call from chase before she gave in and picked up. and now samira was doing the one thing she told herself she wasn't going to do: talk to him.

"please," chase begged, sincerity edging into his voice. "i just want to talk."

"you and i both know that's not a good idea."

"we can fix this, samira. i promise."

samira paused upon hearing what came out of his mouth, her jaw ticked as she was offended and almost left speechless at his words.

"we?"

chase swallowed dryly on the other end, knowing he had messed up.

"how is you cheating a 'we' problem? i didn't do anything wrong! i don't need fixing, you asshole."

it was silent on the line as chase was scared to say anything else to make her even more mad than he'd already made her. his plan was to win her back, but he clearly wasn't doing a very good job.

"sorry," he finally muttered in embarrassment.

samira sucked her teeth. "see, you always say you're sorry but never have anything to back it up."

chase stayed silent.

"prove it."

"prove what?," he asked her cluelessly.

"prove to me you're actually sorry and that you're not just talking out of your ass this time."

"i will," he said. "just come outside."

samira's eyes widened, not expecting chase to say that. had he really come all the way to the other side of town in the middle of the night just to apologize?

maybe he really did care.

against her better judgement, samira pulled herself out of bed and slipped on a hoodie over her pajamas getting ready to meet her boyfriend outside.

and unfortunately, she was most likely going to forgive him again.

"i'll be there in a sec."
