A Room so Dark and Cold

"Wake up," the Guard said, sending a large jolt of electricity through Loki's vein.

"Well, it's not like one can really sleep in a place like this, now can they?," Loki asked sarcastically.

 "Follow me," the Guard beckoned.

Loki followed the Guard out of his cell, down a large hallway which was traveling further away from the castle, and into a small room with what seemed to be a singular, metal table in the center of it.

The Guard didn't close the door behind them, but made it his mission to block the way out. There were no windows in the room, or any light except for what was coming from outside the door.

"You really took me out of my perfectly good cell, just to come...here?," Loki gestured to the room with his cuffed hands.

A slight smile came across the Guards face, making Loki look around the room to see if he had somehow missed something.

"This is going to be your room for a little while, so you'd better get comfy," the Guard said just before stepping out of the room and locking the door behind him.

The only light that came in the room was from the tiny crack from the door.

Somehow, it felt even more quiet than it had been in his cell. Maybe it was because Loki knew that he was much further from the palace here.

"Damn," Loki said shivering, "Why is it so cold in here? It's so cold that I can see my breath, even."

He couldn't seem to get his body to stop shaking from the cold. All he had on was his prison jumpsuit, so obviously he wasn't dressed for this.

As the time went by, the room felt as though it was getting colder. It was so cold in the room that the table had a layer of frost on it.

It hadn't been cold when the Guard had been in there, but the minute he had left, it came instantly.

Loki was so cold, he had sunk to the floor, shivering. Suddenly, like on cue, the Guard came through the door, and it started getting warm again.

"Wow, this room does get cold, doesn't it," the Guard said sort of mockingly, leaning down to become face to face with Loki.

Loki couldn't seem to say anything, or even make eye contact with the Guard. He was still shivering, though he wasn't cold anymore. It was as if his mind believed that he was still freezing.

The Guard stood back up, looked down at Loki, and said sternly "Stand up".

Loki felt as though he couldn't move. He couldn't bring himself to get up off the floor. To be honest, the Guard had to repeat it twice before Loki truly processed what he was being told to do.

After still not being able to get up, the Guard bent down and lifted Loki off the floor. This seemed to have brought Loki back to life.

"Now can you tell me why you took me out of my cell?," Loki asked very calmly and with little awareness of his surroundings.

The Guard swiftly lifted him up off the ground and onto the table, which was as cold as ice.

"This is the only room that's far enough from the palace. We don't want to alert anyone with your screams," the Guard stated.

The words that were just said just barely registered with Loki.

"The cell was soundproof. There wouldn't have been any reason to take me out of it if you only wanted to silence my screams," Loki said, not believing that that was the only reason.

"Well, yes. That's not the only reason. Maybe I just didn't want someone looking in on us, you know?," the Guard replied, laughing just a little.

Loki looked down at the table that he was on top of.

"Are you ever going to tell me why I'm on the table, or is that all in due time?," Loki asked. He turned his head ever so slightly, finally seeing the restraints that were on the sides of the table.

'Oh', Loki thought, 'So that's what's happening'.

He still waited for the Guard to answer his question, though the answer was never vocalized. The Guard forcefully pushed Loki back on the table, laying him straight out.

Loki tried to lift himself off the table, but with the Guard's grip holding him down, plus the fact that he was weak from the cold and not being allowed to eat anything, he had no luck.

The Guard put the restraints on him, tightening them so tight that it almost cut off his blood circulation. Loki couldn't raise up to look at the Guard, but he heard him pull out a knife.

"Now," the Guard said, coming closer to Loki's face so that he could now see him, "Hold still, and do your best not to scream."
