"Ka... na,"
she said, attempting to pronounce her name.
"Doesn't even know how to say her name.. "
Dutch said in disbelief.
"If she doesn't have a family, which she most likely doesn't. Then yea she cant dutch! What is she like.. 8?"
Hosea ushered back.
Dutch huffed, "well we can't stay here.. Hosea call your horse ''
'' I think we're too far away for it to hear us," Hosea thought.
"Well just try anyway" Dutch demanded, getting slightly antsy.
Hosea shrugged and whistled for his horse...... nothing.
"I told you, we'll have to walk back"
"do outlaws walk back to camp? No. They steal a horse and ride back!"
Dutch exclaimed.
"Really? Do you want to steal another horse? The last time we did that we almost died! It is not that far... Well maybe it is but we've been through far worse"
Hosea exclaimed back at dutch.
Dutch huffed, "fine then I guess we'll walk back"
The 3 trudged the way back, stumbling through hay fields, running through apple orchards, and tripping over stones on the paths through the woods.
All the way to a train station where they flopped over from the heat and hunger.
"Why.. did... We go so far... east.."
Dutch mumbled laying on a bench in front of the station.
Hosea leaned on the side of the building, "civ... civilization seems to have a lot of people to rob." he said laughing slightly,
"the west... Doesn't have big buildings."
"Well, the west does have good banks, few... B..but good banks" Dutch said out of breath, sitting up and looking around for the girl.
"Hey-! Hosea where is it... Kana? The girl."
Hosea looked around, "wh- I have no idea-"
Kana stumbled onto the platform with Hosea and Dutch, 3 tickets in hands that were caked in dirt.
"That's my girl!" Dutch said punching a fist up in the air in celebration.
Soft choos from a faraway train slowly becoming near came with the breeze, "Sounds like the trains coming- wait... Where is this train taking us, Kana?"
Hosea asked, standing up and swiping the tickets from her tiny grasp, wiping off the specks of dirt,
"Tumbleweed. Yea. That's where we are staying, so lucky you found these huh?"
Dutch heaved his tired body up from the wooden bench and reached out and tore a single ticket from Hosea's hands, and read
"Tumbleweed train 7:00 Sunday, 9/15/1870, really? We traveled at least 5 days and spent 10 in that mess of civilization?!" he tiredly said.
Whooo~ went the train as steam pummeled up into the air of the darkening sunset sky, yellow and orange leaves fluttered around the tracks as it came to a speeding stop.
People piled out and luggage bags sat neatly on benches as the people sat and waited for the train to pass.
"Hey Hosea, have you ever ridden a train?" Dutch asked, getting up from the bench and stretching,
"Well.. no, not in any civilized way" Hosea answered,
"But I've stolen hundreds of tickets across America tons of times though."
"Ha!," Dutch laughed, "then this will be a first for both of us or all of us."; unknowing if Kana has ever ridden a train.
The duo proudly walked up the train's steps onboard showing off their tickets like they were worth a million bucks, Kana promptly placed hers in her pocket for safe keeping.
They promptly sat in the train car seats by the doors, Hosea and Kana, and Dutch by himself.
Spurs of steam rose from the front and up into the orangey-red skies as the wheels that were clung to the tracks slowly rolled forward and paced into a fast motion as the metal beast drove into the sunset.
The train choo'ed along the tracks as it trudged along with its passengers. A cart and a woman came along down the aisle.
"Would you like anything gentlemen?''
The woman turned to Hosea and Dutch.
Hosea looked around and mumbled "no.... too many people '' and straightened himself up, "Deary me! I've lost my wallet haven't I!"
he poked Dutch's shoulder, "Oh yes! Dear brother, where could it be-"
He reached over and took a stranger's wallet, "Here! I found it dear brother!" Dutch handed Hosea the wallet.
