If I jumped off this building right now would anybody really notice?
For the hundredth time I glance around the large school that I now call my college. Groups of kids litter the quad with large suitcases and boxes full of their belongings. Me? Well I have my Tiny suitcase and a small box full of some semi meaningful junk from my bedroom back home.
Not only am I scared shitless to start at a new school, but during my sophomore year too? I'm going to be an outcast with no friends. Well actually that's necessarily not true. I've heard plenty of good things about college, most of them being from my mother who was "all that" in her college days. She was captain of her cheerleading team at Alabama state. But seeing her now let's just say college popularity didn't do much for her.
She got knocked up by my father before she even graduated. Don't get me wrong she was a great mom for the most part, but after the incident things kinda took a turn for the worst.
I grab the handle of my suitcase making my nerves kick up even more but I quickly push them away and walk inside the large building. I glance around the administration hall and to my surprise not many kids are here. I stand in the short line before I'm called up by one of the ladies behind the desk. "Hi Ma'am." I greet her. She gives me a large smile. "Hello sweetheart what can I help you with." A small accent peaks out from her voice and I can't help but grin.
"Um, I was wondering if I could check into my dorm room and get my schedule please." She nods her head happily. "Of course hon, are you a freshman?" I shake my head no in reply. "No, I just transferred here from Alabama."
I've lived in Alabama my whole life, that's where my mama met my dad. Unfortunately he passed away when I was little from terminal cancer. I miss him so much, but I know he's in a better place. And besides I think that he lived a very full life. Or that's what I like to say to myself to try and feel better about the whole thing.
"Okay darling wait here, I'll go get you a packet." I simply nod my head and take this time to glance around the building. There are glass chandeliers on the ceiling and the walls are painted a very specific shade of white, along with some dark blue accent. It's a very modern look but I love it. "Here you are my dear,'' The kind lady hands me a packet full of papers and a key. "This is a map of the whole campus, along with your parking pass and your schedule. If you have any questions feel free to come to me or anyone of the staff, and we would love to help." she grabs another paper from her desk. "Oh and remember dear lights must be off by 12:00 on school nights. Deans rules." I give her one last smile and thank her again.
I glance down at my dorm number. (531 roommate: Ivy Summers.)
Ivy huh? She sounds nice.
I make my way outside the door once more because sophomore dorms are on the other side of the campus. The walk is refreshing, the cold Ohio weather slaps my cheeks but I don't mind it. Not one bit.

The walk to the dorm is about 15 minutes, I'm sure it would have been faster if I didn't make so many wrong turns. I even tried to ask someone for directions but they just looked at me funny and walked away laughing. I probably could have used my map but I figured it could be a good way to make friends.
It didn't work though.
I look around the sophomore dorm building and it's pretty large. Not as large as the administration hall, but still pretty big. I walk into the door with no hesitation this time. A group girls my age sit around what I assume is the student lounge.
There's a couple signs on the walls pointing to the room numbers and I quickly find my room. I open the door and expect to see my new roommate but to my surprise the room is empty. I glance around and i'm shocked to see that it looks like a small apartment. I mean I've never been to an actual college before since I was online my first year but the movies made it seem like they were small.
I step further into the room and close the door behind me. There's a small kitchen with white marble countertops and a tiny faucet. An even smaller living room and 3 doors. I open the first one and it reveals a linen closet. The last two are already slightly opened and I can see that they are bedrooms. They both look identical so I don't mind which one I get. I end up choosing the door closest to the kitchen because I've been told I sleep walk, and plus what if I get hungry?
I mean I would neve-
'Woosh'
The front door flies open and I jump about 3 feet in the air. A lengthy brunette stands in the doorway with three huge suitcases and some bags. She glances up at me and her eyes go wide. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry did I startle you?" She asks, concerned.
"No, you're all good," I lie. She wipes her head like she's relieved and makes her way into the dorm. "Sorry about the ruckus, they kicked me out of my fraternity house for being too rude. She rolls her eyes. "If you're asking me, they are just too soft. Note to self don't join Alpha Gamma Delta. " I let out a small laugh. "I'm Ivy by the way."
I offer a small smile. "Oh I'm Elizabeth."
"Well Elizabeth, thank you for letting me rant to you. I think we will be great friends." She picks her suitcases back up again and goes to the open bedroom. "Is it okay If I take this one?" I nod my head. "Of course, I just got here like 5 minutes before you did so I haven't even gotten anything I unpacked." She nods.
"Hey do you wanna hang after we're finished unpacking? I can take you to one of my favorite restaurants," She says with a smile. "Yeah that sounds great."
"Okay cool." I grab my small tiny suitcase and make my way into the bedroom. I don't even bother to look around the room, I just plop down on the uncomfortable bed and close my eyes.
I can't help but think this might not be all that bad.
