All too well

As we walked into the arena where all the guys practice I was hit with a wave of nostalgia. The cold air made my body shiver, and the sound of the pucks hitting the walls made my heart flutter in joy.

God I miss this.

Ivy looks over at me and smiles. "They only have about 15 minutes left, just enough time to see their drills." She starts to make her way towards the bleachers and signals me to follow. I expect us to sit in the first couple rows, but to my surprise Ivy makes her way to the very top of the stadium.

"Woah," I whisper. I can see everything from here. The ways the skaters glide gracefully back and forth on the ice, the way the puck moves so smoothly around the corners of the rink, and th-

Woah.

"Woah... who's that?" I question Ivy.

She shifts her head to the rink and back to me quickly. "Who?"

I point over toward one of the players as he zips around the rink, his broad shoulders and large height making him stand out from the other. Ivy snicker beside me.

"Oh that. That's Lucas Turner, star of the hockey team. About 6'5, 200 lbs, and well probably one of the biggest players you're going to meet here. And that's not just because of his size."

How does she know all of that?

"Lucas is one of Connors best friend's. Been that way since freshman year. He's pretty cool, kinda shy at first but warms up pretty easily."

I nod my head in response. I go to speak up again but I'm cut off by a loud siren.

"Ooh sit down, this is my favorite part," Ivy says while pulling me down next to her.

I watch as all the guys line up in front of the goal. They each have their own puck and one by one they make intricate shots into the net as the goalie tries to stop them. One of the players does a spin and throws it in, while the others skate around a bit before hitting it. I keep an eye out for Lucas, and once it's his turn he skates around the net and throws it in from the back.

"Woo hoo!" Ivy screams.

"Woah. That was a lacrosse goal!" I say in awe.

All of the guys began to walk back into the locker rooms, so me and Ivy began to make our way down the steps towards the exit.

"Lucas is really good," I say after a moment of silence. Ivy pushes the door open for me and we head outside. "Yeah I know, at the rate he's going he's going to have scouts all over him. In Fact he already does. I heard one of the coaches from the stars asked if he wanted to come and practice with the team."

I stop immediately in my tracks. "No way."

Ivy stops as well and looks over at me. "Yes way, the kids practically a legend here and it's only his junior year. He's already on the starting line up for every game, and he gets the most time on the ice out of the whole team."

I go to respond but I'm interrupted by the door next to us flying open and someone charging at Ivy.

I swear I can never get a sentence out over here.

"Ivy!" A tall boy with brown hair screams as he wraps his arms around Ivy and spins her around. "I missed you."

Ivy giggles. "Connor, I just saw you last night."

"I knowww. But is a man not aloud to miss his woman?" She shakes her head while laughing. He finally puts her down and Ivy gestures towards me. "Connor this is Liz my new best friend, Liz this is Connor my boyfriend." I give him a small smile. "Nice to meet you."

He returns it. "The pleasure is mine. Ivy won't stop texting me about how amazing and perfect her new roommate is." I blush slightly at his comment.

"Aww she's getting embarrassed," Ivy says while laughing.

I shake my head at her childishness, and Connor speaks up again. "We're just waiting for Brody and Lucas. If you guys want to get a head start on us you can, Brody takes like 45 minutes showers. He says "He must look good for the lady's."

Me and Ivy both laugh at Connors' annoyance. "Alright, we'll grab some tables. Your house after?" She questions.

He nods his head and he pulls Ivy in for another hug.

God, I'm single.

He whispers something that makes her blush, and I figure that's my que to leave. I start making my way to the car and shortly after Ivy hops in next to me.

"Sorry about that, he's needy." I laugh at her statement. "No big deal, y'all are cute together." Ivy smiles. "Thanks. Have I told you how much I love your accent?"

I shake my head. "Nope this would be the first time." She nods in understanding. "Oh well I'm going to say it a heck of a lot more."

I smile at her and she starts up the car. She pulls up directions and makes her way out of the parking lot. "Music?" She questions.

"Um duh."

Ivy hands me her phone and I pull up one of my other favorite songs. It begins to play and she snaps her head over to mine.

"Is this what I think it is?"

"Yes Ma'am. The one and only Paper Rings."
