"We're sending you to the Forbidden Cities undercover in a human school," Councillor Emery announced, face serious and grave. I jumped. "Excuse me, did you just say we're going to a human school?"
"Yes, Miss Foster. Is something wrong with that?" Councillor Emery asked. I shook my head. "No! It's- uhm- well, great! It's just... what if we're caught?"
"Then we'll do a brain-wash on the humans involved," Councillor Bronte answered. My gaze flickered to the ground, brainstorming every possible terrible scenario. Keefe gave me a grin. "We'll be fine, Foster. And the best part is that we get to learn about Foster's early life!"
I gave him a side-eye, but was internally screaming in joy. I missed my old life a bit. Not enough to desperately want to go back; the Lost Cities were great... other than the Neverseen, but they had been defeated a year ago. Everything was mostly calm and peaceful. Which meant we could go to the Forbidden Cities without any fear. Hopefully...
"You'll start in a week," Councillor Oralie added, her eye catching mine. "We wanted to give you some time to prepare." I nodded, my mind numb as if it had been dumped in a pool of ice. My brain hadn't exactly absorbed the information that had been spilled in front of me.
"Alright."

"We're going to the Forbidden Cities YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" Biana squealed, dancing around Everglen's gates joyfully. "Sophie, what are humans like? What do they like to do? What do they do in their freetime? What do they learn?"
"Take a breath, Biana," I told her, smiling at her enjoyment. "They're... a lot different than elves. A lot. But in a lot of ways, they're somewhat similar." I gripped my backpack tightly, wishing that the tension in my mind would somehow dissipate through my fingers. In my other hand was a blue leaping crystal, set to the high school we would be attending, Miliman Highschool A/N This is a random name honestly...
"It's not just a game though, Biana. We have to be careful not to be caught. Which means not disappearing every three seconds," Tam told her, tugging his bangs over his eyes. She sighed dramatically, rolling her eyes. "Are humans smart enough to catch on to us? Last I heard from Sophie she skipped, like, six grades."
"They'll still catch us if they find us suspicious. Then who knows what they'll do," Fitz replied, crossing his arms over his chest.
"And human schools can be... peculiar. And there's always things hiding in the corners," I added. "You never know if someone has drugs or has a knife. I've heard some schools make the students go through metal detectors for safety reasons."
"Well... that's concerning..." Dex mumbled. "Should I bring a couple gadgets for back-up?" I shook my head quickly. "No, definitely not. If someone finds it, they could... well, you know. And then we'd get in a whole lot of trouble with the Council." Marella nodded, twisting one of her braids nervously.
"But Foster, wouldn't it be amusing if we brought, hmm, a couple stink bombs and unleashed them on the school. Or a recreation of the Great Gulon Incident!" Keefe joked, grinning widely. I rolled my eyes. "And I thought you had nothing to do with that. Every time I ask about it, I either get a 'didn't say I had anything to do with it' or 'it's complicated'." Keefe grinned, but didn't say anything.
I lifted the sparkling blue crystal to the light, walking through the shimmering beam of light to a new journey.
A/N If y'all are waiting for the sequel, that is definitely on hold. I can't write it (writer's block is nice). I've been writing an original book series that I ran into writer's block on, so I'm writing another original book series.
But... I plan for this fanfiction to be updated semi-weekly. Not daily like SoTam, or I'm never going to write my original books.
Anyways, I'll have a few announcements on my account, such as book recommendations and maybe shoutouts. Also, please message me if you would like to try a collab (I can't guarantee it though) and if you have any fanfic / book suggestions you would like me to write! :D
