As he finished eating the last bits of the wafer cone, you noticed that Val was already yawning and laying his head on the table.

"Ajax, we should probably get going, no?"

"Okay then, Poppy~"
you sighed as you pinched his arm.
Carrying Val, you saw a lady not so distant, and you seem to have caught her attention.
Then she took a picture of you.

Though Childe gave the woman a threatening glare, you just put your hand on his shoulder and looked at him more calmly.
Don't mind her. What can she gain and what can we lose from it? She's just wasting her time Childe merely nodded as he tried to ignore the woman.

Entering the car, you gently lay Val down at the back and buckled a seatbelt on him. When he seemed comfortable enough, you sat down on your own seat.

"Let's get going, step-big bro."

Childe started the engine and drove away, careful to slow down at ramps to prevent waking up your nephew.
As you stared out the window, almost falling asleep, you remember something important.

It's almost Val's birthday...

He's nearly 7...i promised him I'd show him his father once the time came..
Sighing, you were in deep thought. What are you going to show him on that day? He's quite stubborn, and definitely won't take
"I'm sorry, your dad is busy lately" as an answer.

"Ah shit, traffic in an area like this? How unlucky.....hey, what's wrong? Are you still bothered by that woman earlier?" Childe places his right hand on your shoulder as he sees your saddened and tired expression.

You shook your head as you placed your own hand on his. "No, it's not that. But it's just that...Val's turning 7 really soon, and he asked me before that once he turns 7...he wants me to show him where his dad is."

Childe gasped lightly, asking what on the world you could say or do.

"I have no idea. And even if i did...i just can't bear the thought of even seeing his father alive...that maniac bastard... He was around our age right now when he impregnated my 17 year old sister. How could i ever stand seeing him?"

"...I'm pretty sure he doesn't even know he has a child. Besides, even if he does, I'm willing to bet that he won't give a fuck." gritting your teeth, you had no idea how to express your anger. Your head was aching, you were already tired, and now you remember how much responsibility you have in your hands.

Sighing once again, you mention one more thing "and...not to mention i have to bring him back to his grandparents for as long as he wants, since he wants to spend time with....with family..he doesn't know we're on the run.."

You throw your head back to the headrest, making an angered expression, and exhaling heavily ,You were so carried away with your life lately that remembering all the responsibility you have with Val is slowly deteriorating your collected self.

"I'm starting to realize he doesn't have anyone he can depend on for now...not his 'friends' at school who make fun of him for having a fake parent...and not his family, that fake parent, me."

You started laughing, obviously not at Val's state, but because of how pathetic you felt.

Closing your eyes, you stopped your tears from falling. "Hey, tell me, Ajax. Do you think Val Snow will ever have a future when i, my useless self, is the one taking care of him?"

Taking your hand in his, he gripped it as he responded to your claims.

"Y/n, do you still think you're alone? And do you still think you're a bad, useless person after having raised this energetic, smart kid for seven years?
