After a few weeks from their last interaction, Sonic wanted to talk to them again.

Maybe if he could take him far away from sounds that might spook him, or just somewhere far away from where he stays, then it would be easier to genuinely talk to him.

But apparently, Sonic wasn't the only one who felt this way.

Shadow approached him while he was running on his favorite trail, which would be a vulnerable point.

He approached him in his normal fighting approach, but Sonic didn't reciprocate the gesture.

"Shadow. What are you doing here?" He asked instead.

Shadow was a little taken aback, as usually they would be dodging and fighting right now.

"What do you think, faker?" He tried to spit.

"Needa blow off some steam? How about we do something else for a change." Sonic suggested.

Shadow started to relax his body, looking at him with interest.

This could maybe be a car race, a different type of fighting, or something else. At least that's what was in Shadow's mind.

"I'm listening." He said quietly.

Sonic smiled at his response.

"Great! Let's get ice cream."

Shadow's expression faded completely. He looked at him in disbelief.

Sonic started to walk away from him, looking behind him after a few moments.

"You coming?"

Shadow was truly dumbfounded. He didn't know what to do. If he left Sonic, he would've been extremely bored. But either way, his plan to beat up Sonic have been completely foiled.

Maybe this was code for something.

Shadow shook his head, making himself more confused then ever.

He felt somewhat embarrassed, when he looked down after hearing leaves crunching.

His legs were absentmindedly walking with Sonic.

It was at this point when it clicked.

When his subconscious really told him.

He didn't hate Sonic.

So, with that realization, he sped walked next to him, walking side by side.

"I haven't had an ice cream date in a while, really was due for one." Sonic said jokingly.

"Don't push it like that." Shadow responded coldly.

Sonic didn't know how else he could get them to hang out. He didn't know anything that Shadow liked. But he couldn't find or meet one person who didn't like ice cream, so he went with that neutral option.

They made it to the ice cream place, where at first Shadow declined some, but after Sonic would continuously beg and force him, he finally caved in.

Sonic got a pumpkin rum flavored ice cream, while Shadow got coffee.

They then walked over to where they talked last, sitting on top of the tall brick wall next to fields of grass.

Sonic didn't think he would get spooked this time if they heard anything, since there wasn't any type of breeze. But he could also just look behind him and see the play-set.

Shadow picked at his ice cream cautiously with a spoon, even though it was on a cone and supposed to be licked.

Sonic ate his the normal way, swinging his legs back and forth, genuinely content.
