━︎ VOL TWO. CHAPTER FOURTEEN

❝︎ we are all born beautiful, the greatest tragedy is being convinced we're not ❞︎

Even if Jack's favorite season is autumn, summer falls close behind. Sure, sweating your balls off, and body odor suck, but there are plus sides. Living in a place like Hawkins, where it was always cold, the warm weather is a nice change. He loved how bright the leaves looked, and how his pale skin became slightly tanner.

The summer of 1985, has been the boy's favorite summer by far. A few weeks after he started babysitting the Sinclair's again, he quit his job at the palace arcade (Doctor Evans was thrilled). But when he found out a record store was going to be in the mall, he just had to apply. He dragged Steve with him, who ended up scoring a job at an ice cream parlor, 100 feet away from the record shop.

Jack absolutely loved Ruby's Records Shop. He was able to give music advice all day while listening to his favorite songs, and this time there were no flashing lights or screaming children. His uniform consisted of a red, yellow, grey, and white striped sweater, with a small logo on the breast pocket.

He spent his lunch breaks at Scoop Ahoy with Steve. He quickly fell absolutely in love with his co-worker Robin Buckley. Jack had one or two classes with her, but never really talked to her. Robin matched his witty and sarcastic humor and loved to tease Steve as much as Jack did.

Robin had found out about their relationship only last week when she walked in on a very private make-out session in the backroom.

Jack leaned against the counter, as Steve moved his hands up and down his waist. His tongue was warm and familiar as it explored Jack's mouth. Jack gripped Steve's hair, causing the taller boy to let out a moan.

They were too involved in each other to notice a girl had opened the door, her eyes widened, and a cone of ice cream now splattered on the ground near her shoe. "Oh my god!"

Jack quickly pulled away from Steve as the girl slammed her palm over her eyes. "That's scarring."

"I can explain." Steve stammered as he messily threw his sailor hat back on.

"Oh, no. I've known about this." She waves her hand at the two boys. "For a long time."

"Don't tell anyone, please," Jack begged.

"Of course, I'm not an asshole."

"Wait. You already know?" A confused Steve asked.

Robin shrugged. "You two are so lovey-dovey it makes me sick. Now, Harrington, you have ice cream to scoop and children to bicker with, let's go."

Jack chuckled as he watched the two walk to the front of the parlor, play-fighting the whole time.

Jack smiles at the memory, he's currently closing the shop and turning the lights off. He can hear the security sliding grill of The Gap, slam to the ground. What he doesn't hear is someone walking into the shop and wrapping their arms around Jack.

Jack gasps in fear and quickly turns around to see the face of his boyfriend. His hair is disheveled from wearing that stupid hat all day, and he's holding a small container of ice cream in his hand.

"Jesus, Harrington. You scared the shit out of me." Jack gasps as his boyfriend hands him the container.

"Rocky road. You're favorite." He smiles.

"You know me so well." Jack smiles back as he places the ice cream in his backpack.

"That's going to melt." Steve comments.
