Esmeray's POV

Soon enough, Theodore left his office to give me some space and time to gather myself together. He said that he needed to see Sapphire anyway, and that I'm free to stick around the Palace for as long as I needed to. Truth being told though; I had been left even more bewildered than I thought I would've been originally.

I couldn't comprehend his kindness towards me at all. Did he have some trick up his sleeve too? Maybe he was the next Zander, trying to win me over only to trap me under his control as soon as I'd hand my heart to him. As if that would ever happen.

I didn't know. What I did know was that I needed to get back home as soon as possible and sleep all my worries away.

It had been a solid twenty minutes of me just sitting at Theodore's office desk contemplating many things in one go, before I very quickly lost the track of time. The sun had long set beyond the sky's horizon and the stars were dimly lighting up the navy colours. My exhaustion became extremely strong at that point and even though I knew I needed to get up and set out on my journey back home, I still decided to take the risk of resting my eyes for a few moments. Just a few. I need to get back home though..

The warmth that spread around the room hugged me gently and I must have dozed off, comfortably in Theodore's chair. Everything that had been bothering me could wait until the next morning.

Eventually, I faintly heard the office door opening and two people who seemed to be in deep conversation, walking inside. I was half awake and half asleep, so I couldn't understand most of the things they were saying. The male voice had sounded familiar. It made my subconscious tell my brain that my fight or flight mode does not need to be activated in this situation, allowing me to continue sleeping undisturbed.

"So you can't be bloody surprised that she's fleeing from under your nose if she saw that. I would fear you too if it wasn't for the fact that you're my asshole of a-" a female voice accused but was quickly cut off. My brain's wheels began working and I recognised the voice as Sapphire's

"Will you keep it down you idiot, can't you see she's sleeping" a male voice whisper-yelled in response.

Feeling braver than I probably should have in that Palace, I tiredly entered their feud. "I'm not anymore, clearly." my voice automatically carried itself across the room.

I sat up in the chair I had apparently been sleeping in and trained my eyesight to work again in the dimly lit office. My suspicions had been confirmed; it was Theodore and Sapphire that had entered the room.

Theodore approached the desk and leaned against it, half sitting on it. He looked at me with such emotion in his eyes that didn't match absolutely any of his previous actions.

"Seeing that it is getting late, we have around fifteen en-suite guest rooms that are currently free for you to stay in overnight." He offered.

I instantly began to protest. "No, it's okay, I'm expected back home anyway. I'll manage but thank you very much." I added. The realisation that Mom and Sol must be worried by then wasn't particularly a nice one.

"Actually, we finally found a job for Anthony to kill his everlasting boredom. He's currently being sent down to your hut to inform your mother and sister that you will be staying at the Palace tonight. Don't worry about any of that." Sapphire butted in.

I turned my attention to her and stared as if she just spoke Chinese to me. I sighed but decided there's no point in arguing with such powerful vampires anyway. Plus I had been too tired.

"Right, I'll head up to one of the free rooms and just get to sleep. It is quite frankly the one thing I'm aching to do, and I don't care where it is. I can sleep on the forest floor for all I care, just don't talk to me before sunrise." I grumpily ranted while still being half out of reality. I could deal with many annoying things but losing out on sleep because of someone was not one of them.
