Prologue

The time has come, there is no where left to run. No more chances to delay the inevitable as we prepared the final touches of our legacy.

I carried my little bundle of joy in my arms, rocking the sleeping form back and forth soothingly as I made my way towards the transmuting circle I had prepared when I realized I had a life growing in my womb. To be a mother of someone that would be of both worlds.

My husband, Damon, watched the two of us from the outer edge of the transmutation circle, his eyes filled with despair and love, it mirrored with mine. His pitch black hair fell softly against his ruggishly handsome features. His eyes, two gleaming orbs of swirling flames gave him a demonic appearance, and even though he is a dark one, well technically a hellhound, he's the man that I would always love for he is my mate, the other half of my soul.

I can see that he wants to stand with me and his daughter, but the circle was not meant for any of the dark ones. His muscles were strained as he held himself back from coming towards us, fearing the backlash of the circle on us. He knows this is the only way to protect our daughter, the one who was created by our love, no matter how forbidden it is.

“Lilliana, will this really work?” Damon asked, his voice heavily accented.

I smiled at him as I placed my daughter at the center of the circle, her continuing to sleep soundly. “I'm positive it will work. I am the strongest illuminati to have ever been born and my spells have never failed in my four hundred years of living.”

Damon smirked, even though he was still uncertain about this. “I do know that, but you have to see it through my eyes. Having see my wife perform a spell, especially a very powerful sealing spell that has never been used on anyone, only to be used on our daughter can be unsettling.”

I went over to Damon and kissed his cheek. My pure white hair flowing around us as I gathered energy to perform the spell. “I'm confident that this will work.” I placed my hand on his cheek, relishing the warmth of his tanned skin against my pale flesh. “And when this is over, our child will be safe.”

Damon took my hand in his and kissed my palm. “Yes. Even if it costs us our lives, we will keep our baby safe. I won't let anyone hurt her.” The flames in his eyes swirled in anger at the thought of any harm of our daughter.

“And I the same.” I agreed, letting him see the same emotions swirling in my vibrant blue eyes.

I let him go and turned back towards the circle. Raising my hands, I pushed the power I have been gathering into my fingertips and let it flow into the circle. The circle glowed brightly, the lines of the circle now traced with a glowing golden hue as it began to activate.

I murmured the incantation of the spell, concentrating on keeping the flow of power steady or else the spell would warp should the flow change in any way. Because of the high difficulty level of this spell, the flow of power has to remain constant. A slight change could harm my baby and both Damon and I.

As I continued the incantation, my words turned into symbols used in my realm, swirling around the circle in rings, rotating all around the walls of the circle. My daughter woke up with a gurgle, her big blue eyes soaking in the light show of the spell. Her eyes were almost like mine, a vibrant blue, only it seemed to glow like flames, just like her daddy's. Her hair, was the color of a raven's feather, so black that it was almost blue in the light. Her soft baby skin was pale and glowed with health.

Her eyes wandered around until she finally spotted me and Damon. Her arms came out of the blanket wrapped around her and held out her hands to us. I smiled at her with love exploding in my chest.
