"You have nowhere to go."

Vernon Dursley was right. After sending his blimp of an aunt for the stars in a fantastical show of furious— albeit unintentional— magic, Harry Potter stormed out of the Dursley home with nothing to his name but the box of luggage he dragged against asphalt behind him.

This harsh realization strikes Harry only after he registers the stabbing sensation of icy night air nipping at his pale, bluing skin. His breath exits his chattering lips in a stream of opaque white fog. Once his anger subdues and he breathes a moment of clarity, he is left to think one thought— where is he going? He has no family or friends within walking-distance, none that would be willing to let him crash in the little room under their stairs. Now, he can only hope to come across something worth stopping for.

It's only very shortly into his walk that Harry spots a figure resting beneath a dim street lamp just a few meters ahead. As his feet stutter and hesitate, he debates within himself.

Could it be someone sent by Voldemort? What if they were sent to capture me?

The pungent scent of tobacco hits his nostrils and grows stronger as he foots closer to who he can now tell is a girl sitting on the curb of the street, smoking a cigarette.

Feeling the burn of a curious gaze atop her head, she looks up at Harry and their eyes lock.

Oh my days, thinks Harry. His breath catches in his throat, and maybe it's fear. Perhaps it's astonishment. He doesn't know why, but he's stunned.

His eyes meet a girl of soft, round cheeks and pretty lips that part when she exhales, along with shiny hair that frames her chubby face delicately. She's certainly younger than Harry had initially thought a smoker should be. None of the smoking has yet had an effect on her appearance. She looks his age.

Harry clears his throat and breaks eye contact before he almost continues to walk by, but the plump girl calls out.

"Hey." Her voice is smooth and unwavering. Not confrontational, but confident.

Contrastingly, Harry stutters. "Oh! H-Hi, hello."

She smiles with the gentleness of a good friend, even though they are not. "Are you awaiting the Knight Bus as well, Potter? Though, I'll tell you now, I've been sitting here for nearly ten minutes, stuck my wand out three times, and nothing! Something's interfering with the magic here, I just know it."

The unfamiliar girl speaks like she and Harry are well-acquainted, like they've known of each other for years. She drags a breath through the cigarette between her chubby fingers as Harry blinks confusedly.

"I'm sorry, the... "night" bus? This isn't a bus stop." Harry shakes his head. "No, no. Wait. What did you just call me? Have we met?"

Harry doesn't remember ever meeting the strange girl, and he's sure he could never forget a face so beautiful.

She sighs, like Harry is wasting time by asking the obvious questions. "Potter? As in Harry Potter? You know, the boy who lived. Unless you're just some muggle-kid-Harry-Potter-doppelgänger. That's a possibility, I suppose. Then, I should ask you to forget everything I've said up to this point."
