Charlie was the first one to greet me when I arrived back in Hell, sweeping me off my feet in a giant bear hug. I laughed and hugged her back, allowing her to pull me into the throne room. I was in and excellent mood and the minute I set foot in the threshold, I was hug attacked again by Lilith, who immediately started asking me questions.
"How is it there? Do you have enough to do? Does your person obey you well enough?" She looked me over like she was checking me for injuries as she spoke, circling me once.
"Mom," Charlie giggled, "Chill out, Allie's fine, see?"
"I know, I know- but still! I'm still so used to having her around every day, even though it's been a month now," Lilith said, giving me another little hug.
"Awww, I miss you guys too," I laughed, smiling up at the two of them. In all honesty, the past month had been a blast, but it was really nice to be back for a moment. I was starting to get a little homesick in between my little adventures with Alastor.
I will shamelessly admit that I was very wrong to think this job was going to be boring. I also didn't expect Alastor and I to be so similar; we had very similar views and thought processes on most things. The things we disagreed on were very minor. Had I not died two years before, I think Alastor and I could've been friends without this stupid assignment thing attached to it. Nonetheless, I was heavily amused and entertained, and so was he. He'd even told me that what we were doing was the most fun he'd had in ages, and though it embarrassed me to admit, that made me very happy. I'd never really had a friend that was this similar to myself, or this charming, being completely honest. Alastor was everything I'd have wanted in a friend, if I'd had the courage to make any in life. For once, I didn't feel so lonely.
Lucifer finally entered the room and greeted me with a grin. "Ah, Allie. Good to see you, I hear you're doing very well up there. Congratulations."
I laughed a little. "Why thank you, I very much appreciate that. It's going a lot better than I expected, that's for sure."
"That's wonderful. Charlie, Lilith, may I speak to her alone, please?" Lucifer turned to his wife and daughter, his smile never wavering. I felt a little pang of anxiety go off in my chest momentarily.
Uh oh- That's probably not good, my mind piped up. Absently, as I had tendency to when I'm anxious, I reached a hand up and started to fidget with the ends of my hair. Lilith and Charlie glanced at each other, mildly confused, but after a few seconds they left the room as requested. Lucifer went over to the big window at on the other end of the room, facing away from me, hands resting behind his back. There were a few moments of silence and then he sighed quietly to himself and turned to look at me.
"I'm mildly concerned about you, Allie." He said.
At this, I gave an involuntary, confused laugh. "Oh? Why?"
"I take it you remember the attachment suggestion, correct? That third little rule?" Lucifer raised an eyebrow, clearly questioning my reaction. I tilted my head curiously. I didn't quite understand what he was getting at.
"Yes," I replied slowly, "I remember- Why, though?"
"And you remember the little warning I gave you before you left for the living world?"
I nodded. "Yeah, you told me to be careful because Alastor is persuasive and charming."
"Exactly," Lucifer sighed again, "I'm not sure that got through to you."
"What do you mean?" I was starting to get a little frustrated.
Just spit it out already-
