"Success?" I asked, leaning against the mouth of the alleyway. A dark blue glow surrounded my frame, casting eerie shadows on the walls. Alastor stood up and turned around, grinning when he saw me.

"I'd say so, yes," he replied, "Perfect timing, Allie."

I laughed a little. "Why thank you, I try my very best." I glanced down at the mess he'd made; there were three people, two young women around my age and a slightly older, frail looking man. I could who'd been putting up a fight too. The women had more markings on them, and this was another instance in which Alastor's glasses had been damaged.

Though the scene was very much a bloodbath, it was precise. No time wasted, no one spared. I smiled at Alastor. "Bravo, you learn very well. I'm impressed."

Alastor's smile widened a little and he gave me a silly little bow. "Thank you, darling, I learned from the best I daresay."

I felt my face flush a little. This had become a common occurrence with him; he was either trying to make me blush on purpose, or he did it by accident with all the little compliments he dropped throughout the day. It made it difficult to tell whether he was flirting on purpose or didn't realize how easily I flustered. I wanted to believe the latter, but Alastor liked how reactive I could be. It was entertaining to him. It drove me crazy that I didn't know for sure.

"Oh whatever, no need to get all prince charming on me," I said, rolling my eyes, "I'm only keeping my word."

"Well isn't that just the sweetest thing," he teased, meeting me by the opening of the alley. I snapped my fingers, making the blood on his clothing and the damage to his glasses vanish.

"You hush," I huffed, feeling my face heat up a little more. Now this asshole was actually trying to fluster me. I tried to make it appear like I wasn't having any of it, but Alastor saw right through me and we both knew it. He gave me a brief little hug around the shoulders.

"Fine, fine," he cooed into my ear, "As you wish. You really don't know what to do with compliments, do you dear?"

I shooed him off of me and he chuckled, letting go of my shoulders. I turned around and started walking away, Alastor falling into step beside me. As soon as we reached the street, I switched back into my human appearance and everything was in order, as if what had just happened didn't exist.

Alastor was a lot of fun to teach. He caught on quickly and absorbed and retained information well. He had strengths in this area, of course because of what he'd learned on his own from experience, but exact precision was key, so that's what we'd started with. Everything after that had been smooth sailing, and he was heavily enjoying himself. That had also grown to make me happy, but not because I was getting anything out of it. I was really there to casually whisper in his ear here and there, just to guide him. I was simply happy with it because Alastor was happy with it, it was amusing. We had similar ideas of what entertaining meant to us, and this whole thing had been a lot of fun. So much so that time seemed to disappear faster than I could process.

It was the end of year 1933 now. Four months had passed since my last check in with Lucifer already. It seemed unreal and hard to believe, but I hadn't really been paying much attention to the time up until this point. I had a weird feeling that something was going to happen soon, but with no real explanation for why I felt this way, I'd been dismissing it. I had way more to think about, I didn't have time to assess some odd gut feeling.

Once we arrived back at Alastor's house, he started preparing his evening meal and I sat on the counter and talked to him while he did so.

"Y'know, Allie," he said to me, glancing at me over the top of his glasses as he worked, "You're so genuine that sometimes I forget that you're a demon."
