A boy's eyes

So full of hope,

And dreams, and romance.

Not the kind where one loves a person

Rather the one where they love,

And want to keep loving,

Life.

He sees himself being the art

He so deeply adores.

Visions of crowds applauding

As he bows and smiles-

A smile so real,

A smile not to please his father.

But when he opens those enchanting eyes of his

All he sees

Is a pitch black void.

Darkness deeper than ebony,

Darkness deeper than Nyx herself.

He lies and he acts.

To his peers, he says he is okay.

To his parents, he says he will obey.

He knows there is nothing for him

But the haunting expectations

And the crushing pressures.

And so, he hangs his head low.

He dreams and he dreams,

Until the jewels in his eyes

Inevitably lose their shine.
