"No! STOP. DON'T TOUCH ME!!"

I was woken up by this scream, I ran downstairs to see my mother being held against her will by her boyfriend, Jake. Unfortunately, he noticed me and caught me before I could even think to run.

"Please leave her out of this Jake! She has nothing to do with this!" My mother pleaded, as if her life depended on it... Clearly that was the case.

My mom begged him to let me go, as I squirmed under his strong hold over me. She was in tears as she watched him tie me up and put a piece of duct tape on my mouth, almost as if he knew I'd attempt my escape. "No, why should I do that? She'll go to the cops and tell them to come and get me!"

Damn right I would, I'm not fucking stupid.

"No, Melissa would never-" Mom, yes I would. "She's not that stupid, to risk our lives like that". He shook his head while staring at me, an evil smirk plastered on his face, as he stares down to me seductively.

He turned to my mother, "Do you think I'm an idiot?" Yes. "Do you truly believe that I am that Naive?" Again, yes. "You shouldn't have fucked me over so badly Melinda"

He grabbed my mom in annoyance because she wouldn't stop fighting back, and threw her in the closet. "MOM!" I screamed for her, "Shut up or I'll put this bullet through your head right now". In all seriousness, I would like to stay alive.

Sitting there with my eyes closed praying for a miracle because clearly nothing else was going to happen.

Out of nowhere I felt this sting against the right side of my face. I look up to Jake standing over me. He hit me, making me loose my train of thought. He dragged me to my room and tied me to the bed.

He went back downstairs and all I heard was Screaming from my mom "No No No. Don't do this! I love you! Please! Melissa is here! Don't Ja-" I hear a bang. I wiggled myself out of the handcuff and untied the rope around my feet.

I grabbed the bat that was in the closet, I went downstairs and saw my mother on the floor with blood surrounding her. I broke down crying, kneeling beside her. "No Mom! You should've listened. I told you not to trust him!"

I heard footsteps shuffling around in the basement and I ran over to the phone and called the police, they're on their way.

Next thing I know it went black, everything was a blur. I had this sharp pain in my back.

--

I woke up in the hospital. I called for the nurse. She came in the room. "Yes? You rang." She giggled. how could she be giggling? What?

"Why am I here?!" I freaked. She frowned "Ms. Melissa. Yes, hmm... You were slightly stabbed in your right shoulder. It wasn't deep enough to kill you though. That's why you're here. Unfortunately.. We weren't able to save your mother-"

Mom. What? Dead? How? "What are you talking about?! What happened to my mother!?" I screamed, thrashing around trying to get out of the bed.

"Nurses! Come quick! Bring the Meds!" she held me down, the male nurses came in. "Do it now! This girl is strong!" I bit her "Ouch! You little-" I felt something pinch my arm. It went black again.

--

I woke again. The angry nurse lady and a police officer were here in the room. "Miss, I just want to start off.. I'm so sorry for your lost. May I ask do you have any living relatives?" I shook my head no.

"Where's your dad?" he asked. I wasn't asked that question in a long time.

"He's uh.. he died when I was little. Heart attacks kill... That's what my mother always told me, when I asked." The officer had sympathy written all over his face. "Why?" I questioned.

"If you have no living relatives, that means you have to live in an orphanage. You have a choice, live in a orphanage here in the states or in London, England. We have this exchange program for the young teens. So you have first choice." I don't know, I've always wanted to go to England.. but I don't want to leave the States, let alone Jersey.

But hey what's the worse that can happen? I practically lost everything. This could be my fresh start.

"I guess a change wouldn't kill me." I'm going to England.
