'How in the heavens am I supposed to ride a broom!?' Fele panicked.

She shakily accepted the broom and just stared at it.

'I can't fly a broom! Their brooms here are just twigs and a stick put together! I have to be the one to put mana in it, but I can't do that! I don't own any mana!' Fele fretted.

"We will now begin the Magic Knights Entrance Exam." Captain William announced.

'What am I supposed to do!?' Fele thought as she looked around at the other participants.

Some of them looked slightly troubled while others looked extremely confident.

'Okay...' Fele thought as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. 'Calm down. You're not gonna get anywhere if you panic. Let's listen to the instructions first before doing anything else.'

"We will now have you all take several tests. The nine of us will evaluate your performance, and then we will select the candidates that we would like to add to our squads. If chosen, you will join that squad. If you're chosen by more than one squad, you may choose the squad you would like to join. On the other hand, those who are not chosen by any Captain are not qualified to join the Magic Knights." Captain William explained.

Fele couldn't help but gulp out of nervousness.

'Holy Gods, please look after me...' Fele prayed, just like how the people of Amaranta always did before doing anything dangerous or important to them.

It seems that Amaranta's culture and traditions haven't been completely forgotten by Fele.

"For the first exam, we will have you get on those brooms and fly." Captain William instructed.

Concerns immediately arose as this would be the first time for some of the participants.

"Mages who can control their magical powers should be able to do this instinctively."

'Well I don't exactly own any magical powers now do I?' Fele couldn't help but think.

"It is the most basic way for mages to travel. If you cannot fly on a broom, you shouldn't even be here. Alright, begin." Captain William instructed.

'Think, Fele! How can I fly?' Fele thought as she stared at the broom while the others were already mounted and trying to fly.

'Should I just use wind magic? But in order to do that, I have to summon my sword. And they'll probably know if I try to use wind magic.'

At this point half of the participants were already in the air, while the other half were still having trouble on the ground.

'I can't release my stored mana without using my magic ite—wait! What if I...' Fele suddenly perked up as an idea popped in her head.

She hurriedly took off her necklace and started wrapping it around the broom's handle.

'It should work if I do it like this. Just like when I wrapped it around that fake grimoire! But did it really work, though? It was never really proven because they didn't actually check if the grimoire was real.' Fele thought as she finished wrapping the necklace.

'I guess we'll just have to find out now!' She thought determinedly as she mounted the broom, her hands wrapping around the necklace which was wrapped around the broom handle.
