Swinging my legs back and forth while waiting to be called to board the plane, I turned on my iPod to listen to some music to calm my nerves because A. I've never flown before & B. I was nervous for what was in store when I got to London. "I didn't think I'd be this nervous." turning to face Reese who was obviously so indevled in her book she didn't hear a word I said; she's probably nervous too, so I just leaned my head back and closed my eyes to get my mind off this a little over 12 hour flight and what was to come.
"Flight 418 from Charlotte International Airport leaving for Dallas International Airport is now boarding" the attendee called standing behind her desk. "That's our flight Reese" I said pulling her ear buds out of her ear. "Damn it Reese, if it wasn't for me you wouldn't make it anywhere" I said laughing "Haha, very funny" she replied. So Reese and I jumped up and grabbed our carry ons and walked towards the woman. Handing her our boarding passes & passports she said "Have a nice flight ladies, you may proceed to board the plane". "Thanks" we replied in unison. Taking the long walk down this walkway to board our plane Reese started boasting about how we were going to London and screaming "London, you ain't seen nothing yet!" "Reese calm down! You're going to get us kicked off this plane before we even get on it!" I said biting my lip trying to hold off from busting out laughing at how ridiculously drunk she was already sounding...Airport Mini bar we hit as soon as we got here, bad idea I know, I know she had a few more than I did. Hence me telling her to be quite. Reese was an incredible friend, very boisterous and very outspokenshe's be there for me more than my own family has to be honest but sometimes, I swear it felt like I was her babysitter.
Reese has always been very outgoing and loud. While I'm the opposite, I tend to be quite and a bit socially awkward, but once you get to know me I'm quite outgoing I like to think. More outgoing than I used to be anyway. I never had many friends in high school always hung around the few friends I did have and never really had a social life. I'm a Cosmetology School failure, I got into that a little over a month after graduating high school because my Mom thought I'd be good at it, I thought I would love it but ended up I didn't get the education I deserved and didn't even really like any part of it except the Makeup part. I was always helping out my Grandparents. Which I didn't mind, but it was beginning to get next to me. It just seemed like it was all I ever did. I felt like I had to grow up way faster than everyone else, missing out on some social events and activities.
I also always felt to damn self-conscious 99% of the time. I've never been skinny or even though I was pretty for that matter. I've been overweight but have since lost what I wanted to lose but I still see that insecure, self-conscious girl that I've been for a very long time.
Finally settled in our seats putting our carry-ons in the overhead compartments. "I can't believe they got us first class seats, Reese. This is so nice." I said turning to her, she was acting like a kid in the candy store again looking at the menu & flight schedule Maybe this internship will do me good. I thought. I'm going to a place where nobody knows me, it'll be a fresh start, when I get to London, it'll be the first day of the rest of my life.
"Paige" Reese said trying to hold back a yawn, pulling her earphones out of her ears just waking from a nap. "Paige, wake up your lunch is here" shaking me awake. "I didn't know I fell asleep after takeoff." Situating myself to where I was sitting up straight and could pull my tray down for the flight attendant to put my salad that I ordered down onto it. "What did you get" peering over at Reese's tray with salmon & rice on it. "Mmmm" this looks good Reese said cutting her salmon and taking a bite. Over lunch we talked about everything from the flight and how nice the flights attendants have been to what to expect in London and what we were going to do in our free time. "That was delicious, Thanks" Reese & I told the flight attendant putting our forks down and handing our plates to her. Glancing at her name tag "Sarah, Thanks for being so lovely to us on this flight, we were so nervous because we've never flown before and you made this experience wonderful." "You're very Welcome" Sarah replied walking away from us to check on everyone else.
