The next day it's safe to say we all got an earful from Hermione and the twins who were both worried and relived.

Let's just say I'll never hear them end of me hanging out of a flying car from Fred or George.

I've never felt so scared in my life, the thought of leaving this place, my home. It was unimaginable.

Though I pushed that fear aside as we started our second year.

I was quite pleased to finally take Herbology, Neville has basically talked my ear off about everything we'd be learning so I felt confident I'd do just fine.

Plus it was nice to see the usually nervous boy so happy and comfortable.

We were all currently in the schools greenhouse for todays lesson.

"Morning, everyone." I looked up as Professor Sprout walked in with a smile as usual making me smile also.

"Good morning professor Sprout." We all said greeting her.

"Welcome to Greenhouse Three, second years. Now, gather around, everyone."

She smiles brightly as we all look to her intently.

"Today, we're going to re-pot Mandrakes. Who here can tell me the properties of the Mandrake root?"

I looked to see Neville's eyes light up as he whispered under his breath "To return those who were petrified back to their original state."

I elbowed him to raise his hand but he shook his head and I knew he was to afraid, so I just smiled slightly and raised my hand for him, I suppose in a way. He knew we both knew the answer, he was just to scared to say it, so I thought why not say it for him this time around.

Maybe once he sees he was right he'll gain some confidence to answer in front of everyone next time.

"Yes. Miss Potter?" She calls eagerly to hear.

"Mandrake, or Mandragora, is used to return those who have been petrified to their original state...." I pause thinking I was finished but Neville give me a slight tap on my arm and I look to him before my eyes light up remembering something else he told me previously one day.

"It's also quite dangerous. The Mandrakes cry is fatal to anyone who hears it."

I look to Neville making sure I'm right to see him already grinning almost proudly. Though, he should be the one getting the credit, I'll make sure to try and help him with his public speaking.

"Excellent. 10 points to Gryffindor." She exclaims happily making all my fellow house member smile.

"Now, as our Mandrakes are still only seedlings their cries won't kill you yet, but they could knock you out for several hours, which is why I've given each of you a pair of earmuffs for auditory protection." Professor Sprout explains.

We all look to see the earmuffs as she says "So could you please put them on right away?"

We all do as she says making sure they were securely covering our ears.

"You grasp your Mandrake firmly... you pull it sharply up out of the pot..." she stops though as a loud high pitched screech stared to fill the air.

Even with the ear muff the sound was intolerable and I held my hands over my earmuffs trying to shut out the sound even more and many others followed my lead.

We still watched though as she held the plant in the air now out of the pot wailing and throwing its roots around.

"And now, you dunk it down int the other pot and pour a little sprinkling of soil to keep him warm." She explains starting to cover the Mandrake in a new pot.

"Always." Fred Weasley x ReaderWhere stories live. Discover now
