Trisha POV.
For me, it was another day of hell. After the landing of the humans five years back, I did not stop cursing them and pray that their tyrannical power would come to an end. But aside from that, what could I do. I was a weak being compared to humans. The thought occurred to me many times that my kind was only born to serve the humans. To provide them with food and oxygen and then dying for them so they can use my trunk to do as they please. Afterall, they were are the top of the food chain. They were higher than me in this hierarchy. Was my only choice serving them? Did I even have a choice?I am a tree. But not just any tree. I was an all mighty, powerful tree of life. It would not be exaggerated to say that I was the reason all fauna and flora in the island was alive.
On every chunk of land on this planet, there was one tree guarding the fauna and flora around it; The Trees Of Life. Every tree of life is responsible for the land connected to them, that is, all the land that is not separated by sea to them. There are two main trees of life; Zoë and Eva, who originally had an enormously unfair amount of power. Except that... it was fair. They were responsible for the two most massive chunks of land on the planet . Zoë was located in this patch of land that the humans call the Americas (Namely North America and South America) and Eva, the most powerful tree of life, occupies this place that humans call Russia, she resides at 50 miles south of Uray, a town in Khanty–Mansi Autonomous Okrug. She is responsible for the ¾ of the land on this planet. Namely, the whole continent of Asia, Europe and Africa. But what about the smaller areas of land isolated from the rest of the world, such as Australia and Japan? That's where the less powerful trees of life come in and I, Trisha am among them. I am responsible of guarding life on this island; Mauritius.
I have lived since the beginning of times. I have been through the dinosaur era, past the Denisovans and Neanderthals and primate human civilisation. But of course, those were just stories I have heard from the birds that crossed the skies. Personally I had never met any such species. I was stuck on my beautiful island. I had my own number of species to take care of. My least concern was this new species of homo sapiens that evolved and took over the planet destroying the fauna and flora of the other area of lands. That was until they invaded my home.
The day was sunny. As though the weather hated me. They embarked on the south east coast of my island. As they came in, many animals came rushing to me, alerting me that the devils had finally reached us, that this was our doomsday. At that moment, I lost hope, Eva and Zoë were unable to do anything against them, they were invincible, they were gods. I did not stand a chance. I quietly sighed and sang a serenade and from the silence that followed, I understood that everyone understood my message. It said "We shall cede."
Since then all I could do is watch as my friends were being slaughtered. Waiting, for my turn, for when I too could be free of this hell.
