I caved. I couldn't keep things to myself, so one fine evening I decided to call Matteo up and ask him what he was up to. He said that he was doing boring house chores, so this was a good time to entertain each other.
"Okay. Where do I even start?" I sighed, "before that! I've secured tickets for Monaco, I'm coming all by myself."
"Yes!! This is going to be fun." He smiled, "okay, now getting back to what you called me up for, dish the details."
"Keep your lips sealed. Like locked. Even Gigi can't know."
He leaned closer to the phone screen, nodding, telling me to go on. I told him about the evening in Suzuka, how he took care of me because I was a mess and the numerous presents that he sent to me.
"Please stop! I'll almost forgive him for the way he behaves if you go on."
"Teo!" I laughed, "I really don't know what to do. I've got all these butterflies in my belly and my heart flutters and I can't stop smiling."
"You're in too deep for your own good." He sighed, "so what are you going to do?"
"I don't know! I don't even know what I'm supposed to say to him or what I'm going to do." I faltered, it didn't help he was literally on the other side of the world.
"How am I supposed to keep all this information inside me?" He paced around his living room, "you know I'm not very good at keeping my lips sealed! This is unfair."
"I told you because I trust you, please Teo! For me! Don't run your mouth about this. Nothing's certain."
"Sending a whole lot of packages to the other side of the world doesn't scream uncertainty to me."
"It doesn't?"
He looked at me in disbelief and literally yelled, no it didn't. I asked him more about what he had been up to recently, he filled me in about the new ideas they were trying out at the restaurant and how people were reacting to them.
We talked for hours, I had to hang up because Kenji was calling me. This was a rare occurrence, and as you've seen in the past, almost always a cause of worry.
"Alright what did you do and how should I bail you out?" I answered the call.
"Aren't you even going to say hello?" He replied.
"Hey Ken! What stupidity have you indulged in this time?"
"I told my higher ups I wanted to diversify the companies I work with." He sighed.
"That's not stupid! That's progress! So did they give them to you?"
"They said they would if I was willing to move around for projects."
"You're too comfortable here to uproot yourself-"
"And I said I will."
"Okay, that's interesting-"
"I'm not done yet! They told me about some yacht company that needed the services of an external analyst." He continued.
"And so you're going to move to wherever the company is based?"
"Yes."
"For how long?"
"As long as the project takes or more. Maybe if we find more customers I would be reporting to that branch for a while."
"And where is this said branch?"
"Monaco. I have two weeks to move and settle."
"KENJI ARE YOU ACTUALLY INSANE!?"
