It was four days before Winter Formal. We had barley been able to talk to George ever since Amber came into the picture. We had hung out with George only two Fridays ago, with that moment at the soccer stadium parking lot. We didn't have coffee with him in the mornings, and he was never home and always seemed to reject our calls and texts. But, today it seemed that he was coming over to Ko's house to hang with us today after school.
School seemed to get over fast and we needed to head to my house first right after the bell rang.
"So, Maria you need to run and check on Finn and Max then, Josh, Jaymi, JJ, and George will meet us at my house?" Ko asked as she pulled into my drive way.
"Yeah! Be out in a sec.!!" I ran in trying not to slip on the wet grass. I opened the door to find Finn and Max getting dressed. I quickly get hit in the face with my big gray beanie.
"Aye.."
"Hey sis!!" They both yell. They seemed to run towards me and hug me as if I was gonna die or something.
"Uh, Where are you guys headin?" I asked as I saw them packing a backpack with my soccer gear.
"We are going over to Cameron's place to play some soccer and maybe spend the night. Mom and Dad already said yes, so...? Can we?" They asked as they came closer to me.
"I guess. There is no need to really ask me. Go ahead dorks." They run out the door and I just grab my keys and run out again. I hop into Ko's car and head to her house. We hang out for a while until the boys show up. George wasn't with them again,
"George?" I asked
"Uh, he's with Amber for another 15 minutes." I roll my eyes and just sit around. Suddenly my phone starts to ring and it was a call from my mom.
Mum
I need you, Max, and Finny home right away......Your father and I need to talk to all three of you please x
I knew what she wanted to talk about. The stupid divorce. About separating me from my brothers and breaking their hearts. I don't know why but, my face turned red and I get frustrated. I got up and sprinted for the door.
"Where are you going?" Jaymi asked.
"It's not important." I seemed to snap at him.
I ran out and rammed into George as I was leaving.
"Hey Maria! Where are you..?"
As soon as George started talking I ran faster than ever towards my house. I had left my phone in the time of running out. I reached my front door and slammed it open. Out of the rage I could see my parents sitting on different sides of the table.
"Maria...Honey what's wron-"
"YOU KNOW WHAT WRONG MOM. ALL OF THIS. THIS SHIT. YOU GUYS DECIDING YOU DON'T LOVE EACH OTHER ANYMORE AFTER GOD KNOWS HOW MANY YEARS YOU HAVE BEEN TOGETHER.."
"Honey calm down." My dad said stepping towards me with an angry stare.
"NO I'M NOT GOING TO FUCKING CALM DOWN. YOU GUYS WANT TO SEPARATE ME FROM MY BROTHER. I MAY FIGHT WITH THEM SOMETIME BUT COME ON I-I *my voice cracks at this point* I need my brothers with me....I can't be without them...." Tears form in my eyes and I just try to catch my breathe. I could see my parents try to search for words. Finally my Dad speaks up.
"Honey no. We are thinking about making you come to New York with me....We are going back at the beginning of summer and see how things go..."
George
I had just come back from the hours of torture with Amber. If Maria never avoided me I would be with her right now but....whatever. It seemed like everyone was already at Ko's house so I'll just head over. I pull up to her house and I start to walk towards the steps. I see Maria but, it looked like she was in a hurry?
"Hey Maria!! Where are you..?" I never got to finish my sentence because she started running. I run inside and up into Ko's room. I found everyone sitting around on their phones and Jaymi was singing.
"Guys?! What's wrong with Maria? Why did she leave like that?"
"We don't know... but she snapped at Jaymi so she's probably mad." Josh said in a calm tone.
I throw myself down and hope Maria would be back soon. I miss talking to her...I mean...I love her. I need to talk to her and see her. It pains me to stay away from her for as long as I did.
Maria
It was the first time I ever ran out of my house crying. The tears blurred out any chance of me being able to see in front of me. I run back to Ko's house and burst through the door.
