Alice strolled with Lala by her side. The tall, oak trees sheltered her pebbled path, she watched the families out for the day on their morning walk. Cheerful smiles and laughter surrounding her, making her grin. The sun was glistening and vibrant refreshing for the soul. Fast paced thoughts ran through her mind on the current status of her life. Moments in time. Memories fading quickly. Alice held her journal to her chest and took a deep breath, whilst Lala curiously brushed past the bushes trying to search for insects and the scents surrounding the park. They reached Stonewall Park, the go to place, this was a part of Alice's everyday routine. Her morning coffee was just around the corner just at Cafe Lounge and had the perfect outdoor seating for her to relax and journal her thoughts. She came here every Sunday to take the time for herself. It was Sunday, her friends were recovering from the night before, out drinking at the huge house party Amelia had thrown for all her friends and the bunch of people she didn't even know. Amelia was known for that, everyone loved her parties having her parents out of town made her the go to girl for a party every weekend. Sometimes Alice felt sorry for her, for all the immense pressure. Although Amelia did put up a good front so you wouldn't be able to tell how she actually feels about it. Not at all boy crazy but the attention she would receive from guys was intense, she was quite modest about it but from time to time she actually would enjoy it.
Alice was ready for Senior Year just to get it over and done with and pick out her college preferences. Summer was around the corner and everyone was about to go on break.Alice dialled Amelia's phone number, "Girl.. don't tell me your still in bed?" Alice had questioned. She knew the answer right away.
"Omg... it's so early what do you mean?"
"I'm going to get a coffee now, you want me to come by I'll drop you some on the way home?"
Her generosity was one of her best traits, Alice got that from her mum."You're a legend!"
They both exchange their goodbyes and Alice headed quickly to Cafe Lounge to order two strong iced cold brews with caramel and sweet cream foam.
Alice waited patiently while Lala appeared to be checking out the other dog metres away. Lala was quite calm when it came to other dogs, other times Alice would glance at dogs with their owners and they'd be very hyper. She thought it was crazy how herself and Lala could hold the same calmness. She picked up the coffee and headed straight to Amelia's. Minutes later... she appeared at Amelia's front door. She knocked and the door slightly opened. Why would she leave the door unlocked she thought?"Amelia..."
"Come up" she scuffled. The place was filled with last nights DNA perhaps. Red cups everywhere, alcohol spills, furniture moved into different areas, empty bottles everything was a mess.
Alice's expression seemed to have slight fomo- fear of missing out although she knew what kinds of parties they were she had been to so many the past year to distract herself from her own problems."I'm-I'm sorry this place is a disaster" Amelia was profusely apologising.
"Don't be I'll help clean up if u want" Alice empathised.
This was going to be a long day. Alice couldn't wrap around how her parents would leave her months at a time with all that responsibility, she felt bad that she would feel so alone. They had only met this year when Alice had moved to Oregon with her Dad, as he got offered a promotion where the job required him to move states. Alice felt a bond right away when they met at the start of the year, those connections you don't get very often in life. Alice hoped this summer would be fun and eventful she was excited to see what they were gonna get up to.
They cleared up everything and threw out all the trash. Everything was back to normal. They sighed as they slid down on the leather couch, throwing on a chick flick whilst eating caramel popcorn that Amelia had stored up in the pantry. They recalled all the lines from the 'Wild Child' film and giggled the whole way."So I didn't tell you about last night, but omg Ruby came with Brad. Can you believe the nerve she had!" She recalled last night events in a annoyed and frustrated tone.
Brad was her freshman crush then became her boyfriend for the duration of high school. They had been on and off for years, they both really don't know what they want, but high school kids don't tend to know.
"Did you end up pulling him aside?" Alice had questioned.
"I honestly couldn't be bothered anymore for real... I ended up hooking up with Chris upstairs."
They both were on the Varsity football team, not the best of friends but from time to time they would hang out in the same circle of people. Chris being very book smart, didn't enjoy going out too much only when he would get dragged by the boys. Green eyes so pristine and gentle. He had sharp features, curly hazelnut hair, tanned olive skin, especially well built which all the boys were on the football team. He only wore glasses in class but when he did girls would drool and toy with him. Chris wasn't into messing around with girls for the sake of it, especially meaningless flings.
"He so likes you.." Amelia said excitingly.
"No he doesn't he was drunk I was drunk it was nothing" Amelia shakes her head, she knew deep down that was the case but nevertheless could express how she felt.
"Oh yeah... he never gets with anyone you know that. He's only been crushing on you since the 3rd grade. Give him a chance." Amelia nudged her and she rolled her eyes, changing the subject.
Alice headed home and showered for over an hour. She did this when she had a lot on her mind just the hot temperature soothed her. She hopped into bed, wanting to text him but she knew she shouldn't.
The portrayal of who Alice is supposed to look like is Lily Collins.
