Teach Me How To Drive

You were one of the sports teachers of Schloßbergschule, an elementary school in Bensheim. You and your colleague, Adrian, brought the 4th grade pupils to go karting.

The school bus brought you all to Heppenheim, which was only around 5 kilometers from Bensheim. The pupils were going to go karting at Vettel Kart, a karting track that was owned by none other than Sebastian Vettel and inaugurated in 2019.

As he was busy travelling around the world, driving for the Aston Martin F1 Team, Seb left it to his father, Norbert, to manage everything there on a regular basis.

After helping the pupils to get off the bus, you told them, "So students, we have arrived at the track! You have to queue in an orderly. Then, we are going to meet Mr. Carl. He is the driving instructor here and he will help you to learn everything about karting, so you must pay attention to him."

A pupil raised her hand. "Ms. (Y/N), is karting difficult?"

You smiled at her. "We will find out about it soon. As I said, you should listen to whatever he says and don't be nervous. I'm sure that you are going to enjoy it."

Then, you and Adrian led them to come into the track. You were welcomed by Carl and he invited you all to a room that you thought was a class room as the place for him to teach some things about karting.

He delivered instruction that covered topics such as driving lines, braking techniques, the rhythm of taking a corner properly, acceleration on corner exit, kart balance, and many more.

The pupils were categorized as Cadets as they were around 9 to 10 years old, which meant that they were still very new to karting. You smiled as they were so excited to listen to the lesson.

"Okay so that's it! I'll give you time to ask everything you want to know about karting."

It didn't take too long until a pupil raised his hand. "Mr. Carl, why do you have to wear balaclava under the helmet?"

"Good question, buddy. Balaclava is required to wear by karting and even racing drivers. Balaclava can be said as a face protection and it can absorb extra sweat from your forehead and neck region if it gets too hot. So, it's very important for you to wear it."

Then, another one also wanted to ask a question. "What is the purpose of go karting for kids like us?"

"I think that go kart racing is a great way to introduce kids to the idea of competition, especially if you have a dream to be a racing driver. Most of professional racing drivers began their careers as karting drivers, including Sebastian, the F1 driver and also the owner of this kart track."

"Does he still go karting?"

He nodded. "Yeah. He can't do that very often though, considering his F1 schedules are so hectic, but he wishes that he could do more."

After a few questions thrown by the pupils, he brought them to walk the track. There were different tracks there for 5 different categories. Some minutes later, the pupils were divided into several groups as they would race in turns.

You were so proud to see how fast your pupils learnt the lesson. They seemed enjoying their time on track. When some of them were racing, the others were cheering loudly.

"Do I disturb you all?"

You and Adrian turned around and how surprised you both were as Seb was approaching. You didn't expect that he would be there. You were sure that he made a surprise visit. He wore a plain white tee on top and race suit from the waist down. He tied both of the sleeves.

You were actually a big fan of him, but you hadn't got a chance to watch the F1 race live at the circuit as you were still saving your money to afford the ticket.
