Wei Ying remembered the vivid stench of blood. It was a familiar smell, really, to say the least. It clung to his clothes, to his hair, to his heart and brain, it consumed near every part of his being at that point- after all, the dead don't exactly smell like daisies. (And if you thought they would, you were simply an idiot.) So, despite not being able to see at the moment, he could recognize that familiar, unrelenting smell, he didn't remember much from before his world turned black, really, he's never had the best memory, and he wasn't about to pretend as though he did. Who would he even be pretending for anymore? A-Yuan?

Anyway.. At most, he remembered Lan Zhan standing before him, the sound of swords clashing and yelling. He also remembered (what he would like to think is) most of what happened during his youth, growing up with the Jiang family, ruining the Jiang family.. Killing was a main theme within most of what he could remember, and the bits that he couldn't quite recall, he simply deemed unnecessary and let himself forget. What was the point in remembering such small and insignificant things? The past was the past, it would always be like that- unchangeable.

He had assumed he was no longer a part of the mortal realm, if the feeling of floating and black liminal scene before him was anything to really go off of, if reincarnation was a thing, he doubted it felt like this- and as such simply came to the conclusion that he would be here for an unfortunately long time, to be completely honest, he wasn't too upset with that idea. It had always been so loud since he had lost his golden core and started cultivating with resentment, voices always plagued his mind and even in sleep he never got a break- either living through the spirits suffering or his own in a dream he couldn't escape. So yeah, silence and alone time sounded pretty damn good to him.

The only issue was, the quiet didn't last especially long, and voices drifted into Wei Ying's ears, one a soft, gentle woman's, and the other a deep and warm man's.

"Dear, look at him. Isn't he just perfect?" the gentle voice was slightly hoarse with exhaustion, but held such warmth that Wei Ying found himself leaning into the sound unconsciously, but with the slight movement the smell of blood got thicker.

"He is, my darling, you did an amazing job giving birth to our little Ying-er. Come, let me hold him, let the doctor take care of you now. There's still another to come, rest as well as you can." the man's voice grew closer to Wei Ying, before the man felt as though he was being lifted and cradeled like a child. He tried to open his eyes, to squirm away from the unfamiliar and strange man's arms, but as his eyes finally opened, he was staring straight at a man with a face similar to his own, two small hands outstretched in front of his face.

What the fuck?!?
