A place new for eyes like mine

On the day before the competition Tubbo and Ranboo drag themselves onto Mellohi's back at an ungodly hour of the morning.

The world around them is still plunged in darkness and Tommy is probably still fast asleep.

Part of Tubbo hates leaving without the younger hybrid, even if it's obvious to the whole household that Tommy's sudden aversion to heights is much worse than nervousness like Ranboo's  to the point that he can't come. It especially feels unfair to leave without at least a goodbye but Tubbo can't bring himself to wake the blond enderman hybrid.

(Especially when a lackluster harvest  and Ranboo's bosses not coming back yet are probably what have been driving the youngest to so hard. )

Ranboo yawns, drawing Tubbo's attention to the fact that with or without Tommy they have to leave soon. He sighs, pulling his eyes from the wooden door between him and home and to the family member that's able to come with him.  The boy in question hovers awkwardly next to the dragon with their bag of supplies in hand.

He smiles sympathetically before grabbing Ranboo's old duffel bag from the enderman hybrid's (now outstretched) arms , hauling it onto his lap to allow the taller boy to actually board the dragon.

Once Ranboo successfully sets himself down safely behind Tubbo the goat hybrid adjusts himself and the heavy bag to try and be as comfortable as possible, uncomfortably aware of the sound of fabric against fabric.

" ready 'boo?"

His voice seems so loud in comparison to the morning air but Ranboo just yawns, leaning forward and nodding into Tubbo's back. Tubbo ruffles the enderman's hair behind him lazily before turning to the dragon who seems to hate being awake so early just as much as the rest of them. Tubbo yawns and the dragon yawns in response, standing and shaking himself slightly.

"Alright then , Mellohi?"

The beast huffs one last time before leaping into the air.

The takeoff is lazy in comparison to what Tubbo knows he's capable of.

He shivers as the air quickly grows cold, biting at the hybrids' noses and freezes puffs of air as soon as his breath leaves his lungs.

Despite the cold discomfort  Tubbo finds himself leaning back into Ranboo and closing his eyes, listening to the push and pull of Mellohi's wings and trying to calm the nervous shaking his hands have decided to start up.

It must work because next thing he knows he's waking up to sun on his face as the group comes out from behind a cloud and the feeling of arms clutching his torso. He blinks away the stinging light, slowly sitting up and trying not to disturb the enderman behind him. Mellohi looks back for a second before going back to focusing on the thin line below that must be the train track they need to follow.

He stretches as much as he can, whimpering slightly as soreness tugs at his muscles. He rubs the sleep from his face, willing himself to wake up faster. When his body finally listens and he finds himself able to see he peers over Mellohi's shoulder .

He wonders at the unfamiliar land below, he can just make out a river and some scattered buildings behind a screen of evergreen trees and brush. He takes the time to reflect on how far from home he must be and feels a nervous excitement crawl along his spine.

He watches the world scroll past until it makes him dizzy, deciding to just enjoy the silence for a while . He leans back again, the back of his head held between Ranboo's horns. He watches clouds shift from frogs to eels . He watches flocks of birds panic at the sight of the approaching dragon. He watches the trees thin out into a sea of grass even vaster than the hills besides Snowchester he's come to be so familiar with.
