Leah and I stand in front of the mirror in the bathroom on the first floor of the Humanities Building.
"Look at you." I chuckle, watching her smooth the front of her shirt dress. "Where are the oversized hoodies?"
She shrugs, facing me. "I still love them. I just felt like wearing something special today since I feel like crap. It's a good thing the dress is black."
"We're in sync. Mine started today. If you run out of tampons, text me. By the way, what class do you have now? I have Ethics with Sebastian."
A grin spreads across Leah’s face. "Sebastian, huh?"
"The Nerd. Do you know him? Rude, obnoxious..."
"And yet, you don't want him to feel bad and asked us not to tell him you took him home on Saturday."
Here we go.
I didn't want anyone to make a big deal out of the incident with Bast, but Leah and Brian give it too much importance. I keep quiet, applying a coat of Velvet Teddy, while my friend observes me as if expecting me to say something different this time.
"It's better if he doesn't know.” I toss the tube of lipstick into my Louis Vuitton purse and sling it over my shoulder. “First of all, he'd be embarrassed I saw him like that, walking along the highway God knows from where. Besides, I don't want his gratitude. I honestly doubt he'd be grateful at all. What I did was a human thing to do. You'd do the same for someone you know. "
"True. And to answer your question, I have Human Sexuality. It's one of my electives this term."
"Useful.” I smile. "I'd rather have that one."
A toilet flushes, and Leah’s brows rise.
"I thought we were alone," I whisper, staring at her.
We've been in the bathroom for at least ten minutes and didn't hear a sound. Whoever hid there did it with the sole purpose of eavesdropping, and not a lot of girls I know would waste the precious break collecting gossip material. It's not high school, after all.
I follow Leah out of the room, my steps slow. We halt a few feet away from the bathroom, waiting.
A minute passes, and then Elena opens the white door and scurries out of there, her eyes behind the same hideous glasses darting around the hallway.
"Of course." I can't help but groan. "She couldn't finish her business and say hello like normal people do. No, she had to hide like a weirdo."
"She is weird," Leah says. "And she follows Sebastian everywhere."
"To every class.” I glance at my wrist to check the time and instantly regret taking so long. "Crap. Ethics is about to start. I gotta run."
Leah waves goodbye, and I sprint toward the lecture hall as if I wore sneakers instead of the high-heeled boots I shoved my feet in this morning.
