Two kids were running.
A girl and a boy. The girl had her hand in the boy's hand as she pulled him behind her. "Why aren't we going to the police? These are just criminals chasing us." The boy stated. "They don't feel like normal criminals. There's something about them that screams dangerous." The girl huffed.
The two reach a dead end and the girl glances around for anything. There was a camera high on a building. There was a rusty pipe. And a lid to a trash bin.
The thundering footsteps grew louder until the group blocked any escape for the kids. "This isn't worth it, boss. They're only 10." One criminal cried. It was dark but the girl observed the group. It was four against two, not counting the boss guy as a fifth. She was sure he didn't like getting his hands dirty.
"Yeah. What could a bunch of kids do for us?" A second asked. The boss guy steps forward and the boy tries to act strong by protecting the girl. But the boy was trembling. The boss guy chuckled at the attempt. He points at the boy with his finger.
"How would you like to become my little assassin? I've got a bucket list of missions that my men and I can't do because it requires someone small and quiet. I'll even pay you for each mission you complete. You'll even get training before the first mission. What do you say kid?" Boss guy asked.
The girl knew that her friend was too scared to do anything. She wasn't as afraid and she considered their options. If the boy even attempted to kill someone, he would puke and get caught immediately. He had a weak stomach and was indecisive.
The girl then thought about herself. She could potentially do it. She's seen enough violence in the past to help her build walls. She was on the track team and usually placed first. She was pretty agile for a 10 year old. And with the offered training, she could gain other skills like becoming an actual ninja. A ninja that kills, but still a ninja nonetheless.
The boy's lips quivered as he tried to speak. He was paralyzed with fear. So, the girl placed her hand on her friend's shoulder as she stepped forward, a determined expression on her face.
"I'll do it. I'll be your assassin." She stated.
The boss and his four guys were shocked. "Only boys are allowed, sweetheart. It's your friend or both of you die tonight." A third growled. But the boss guy held his hand up. 'Must be a signal' the girl thought.
"Why do you want to take the job?" Boss guy asked. She had piqued his interest.
"My friend can't hold his stomach against the sight of blood. And you'll want someone agile. I'm a first place track player. And I've seen enough violence, bloody and all, to keep a straight face. Take me and let my friend go." The girl demands.
"That kid sounds like a crazy, boss. You can't think she can pull this off." The fourth guy stated. "She can." He began, "She has potential. With the training and her observation skills, she could become the most deadly person in Ninjago." Boss guy stated.
He grinned down at the girl and held his hand out. "I'll take you kid. You and your friend swear to remain quiet about us and we'll start your training in a week." The girl glanced towards her friend and he was afraid but also surprised. Turning back towards the boss guy, she shook his hand.
Six years later...
I couldn't explain how free I felt running on top of the rooftops in the night. The wind whipping past my masked face as I ran. The fear I saw in my targets' eyes before I plunged a knife into their body. The adrenaline that kept me going.
