“If the murderer wasn’t the store clerk and it wasn’t the husband of Ms. Gibbons, then who did it?” Professor Campbell asked us, her bouncy blonde curls bouncing along with her energy and I stifled the energy to cover a yawn as Oliver raised his hand for the millionth time.

Vanessa glared at him and raised her hand as well and frankly, those two annoyed me more than my cold war with Viki, so I raised my hand as well.

“What do you think, Ms. Montovani?”

“I think it was her last customer of the day. The lady had reasons to kill her and she had already had issues with that woman before. If we consider the footsteps of the crime scene, it’s obvious that none of the other suspects would wear her shoes,” I explained and Vanessa quickly objected.

“I think it was the store clerk. He knew how her schedule worked and the store was empty except for them. He could’ve turned off the cameras.”

“Yes, but his feet wouldn’t fit the footprints from the floor.”

“They were used as a decoy. Don’t believe everything you see,” she hissed at me and Professor Campbell quickly shut us down.

“Ms. Solis, unfortunately you’re wrong here. As Ms. Montovani said, the last client came before the store closed, giving into the exact time the murder took place. Well said, Ms. Montovani.” Vanessa fumed quietly as we packed up and when we left, I quickly followed Oliver out of the classroom.

“Ollie, can we talk?” he turned around and smirked at me.

“So the con-”

“Shut up! They’re going to find out who I am!” I pinched his arm as I dragged him away.

“What do you want, Cecilia?”

“Professor Campbell only addresses us by last name. Is there any way you could forge the list so it says Lisette instead of Cecilia, please?”

“Interesting. Did you not like your new name already?” He retorted.

“No, you twit. A lie accidentally slipped and I’m trying to cover my traces.”

“Say if I did do such a thing, what would I get in exchange?”

“Whatever you want,” I offered and he grinned.

“We have a deal then. Now, is that all?” He asked. I sighed and shook my head.

“I heard you and Viki talking the other day at the penthouse.” he sucked in a breath and started walking faster and I struggled to catch up with his pace.

“There’s nothing to talk about there,” he said briskly.

“What does Cyanne have to do with Viki?” I asked him, the question burning to be answered inside and he shook his head.

“It’s not your business.”

“But it’s your business to keep bringing it up to her?”

“I shouldn’t be answering those questions, Ceci. Talk to Viki about it,”

“She won’t tell me anything. You’re her cousin so I suppose you can tell me what I need to know,” he shrugged carelessly and when I pulled him inside the library, he pushed me against the wall, whispering in my ear.

“Don’t look but we’re being followed. So, play pretend and I’ll tell you what you need to know,” he whispered urgently and before I could stop what was happening, his lips brushed mine teasingly and my lips parted as I kissed him back.
