Mikuo's P.O.V
I was walking along the river walk, hands in pockets, and teal scarf wrapped around my neck. It was a chilly fall day and the sun was setting as I was walking home from school.
When I looked up, my heart began to ache as I saw my best friend, Miku.
She was beautiful with her long teal hair up in pigtails as they were flowing in the autumn breeze. Her face glowed with the sun's soft rays of light, illuminating her smiling face.
I called out toher,
"Oi! Miku-Chan! Hisashiburi!(long time no see)"
She quickly turned towards me, startled. Then, she smiled and tackled me. Hugging me tightly.
"Hahaha. Nice to see you too Miku. So, how's it going?"
Miku looked up at me as she pulled away and grinned a goofy smile.
"Good. Now that Mikuo-kun is here. It's been too long since we last talked. We didn't have any classes this year and so it's been hard to talk."
"Yea. Especially with tests and everything. Scary that we have to get ready for college soon. I really don't want to grow up. Wish we could stay seventeen forever huh?"
"Un! I really hate studying. I prefer going to karaoke and just being lazy while hanging out with friends. Ne?"
" Yea." I agreed. Then, there was a pause between us as things got silent. Leaving only the sounds of the wind, city, and river were audible.
"Ne-nee, Miku?" I stuttered. Embarrassed about what I was about to ask.
"Hmmm? What is it?" Miku asked. Looking at me with beautiful eyes that match her hair.
"Ano... I was just thinking." I started. "About what?" Miku asked, puzzled.
" A-are you seeing anybody?" I finally said. My cheeks were red now. Luckily, it was cold out and I could just blame it.
Miku's eyes widened, but then, she looked away. Her cheeks red. From the cold or what I said? Maybe I'm just imagining it.
"Well..." Miku started, facing towards the river again; bangs covering her eyes.
"There have been a lot of confessions but..."
" But...what?" I carefully asked.
"But I haven't been able to accept them. Because I love somebody else."
When Miku said she loved somebody, I felt my heart sink. She loves somebody. Yet, it could be me. I have a chance it could be me. Kami-sama, please. Please let it be me.
"Hontoni!? Oshiete kudasai! (really!? Tell me please!)" I asked with false excitement as I balled a tight fist behind my back.
Miku looked up at me and her face turned even redder.
"W-well, if you really want to know. He is a close to me. We both have many things in common. From appearances to tastes. And..." Miku paused and looked at me with earnest eyes, yet, her face was that of an embarrassed child.
" His name is Hatsune Mikuo!" Miku blurted out. Her voice full of resolve.
The moment I heard my name I was a bit taken aback but immediately shook off my shock and smiled a wide smile. Happy. Happy that my prayers were answered and that Miku loved me. Me!
I hugged her tightly and buried my face into her neck.
"Daisuki (I love you), Miku." I said into her neck, just before I kissed her soft lips. In which she too, kissed back. We both were happy. Very, very, very happy.
When we pulled away, our hands intertwined with each other and Miku placed her head against my arm.
"Su~ki~ daiyou~ (I love you)" Miku sang out.
" Boku datte (so do I) " I sung back to her. Making her laugh as we looked at each other. Clearly overjoyed.
Just then, a bike passed by us in a flash of our school uniform colors and green.
