KOMAEDA POV
"And that makes fifteen!" Yukizome-sama stated as I walked through the door. "I'm glad you could make it Komaeda-kun!"
"Ahah, yeah," I said, rubbing the back of my neck. It took everything in me not to ask why she would be happy about trash like me dirtying her classroom. Nanami-san had been trying to get me out of my habit of thinking like that, though I truly don't understand why. She said it's an 'unhealthy mindset' and that I 'don't deserve to be called scum.' She's a wonderful friend, really, and I'm grateful to have her, but I wish she didn't care so much about me.
I took my seat at my desk, letting my hands rest on top of it. "Yo, Komaeda!" I turned my head to look at Soda and Kuzuryu. "You got a coin on you?" I reached a hand into my pocket, finding a 1 yen coin.
I flipped it over to the two, watching Kuzuryu catch it. "Hell yeah, thanks man!" He said. I smiled back and nodded.
"Anything for you guys!" I said. He rolled his eyes a bit but smiled back before turning to Soda.
I silently listened in to their conversation, apparently going to flip a coin to decide something. I wasn't paying enough attention to hear what, but it was entertaining nonetheless. Hearing Soda wine about losing a coin-flip was always pretty comedic.
"Hey hey," I heard from beside me. Chiaki had walked over and was now half-sitting on my desk, looking down at her Gamegirl. "You excited for tonight?"
"Of course! Getting to spend a night with all of you Ultimates is like a dream come true!" I grinned.
"Komaeda-san, you're an Ultimate."
"Barely," I scoffed. She rolled her eyes a bit and set her console down on her lap. "But really, I truly appreciate that you invited me," I said. She smiled and nodded.
"Of course!" She said. I smiled back at her. "Oh, and about my other friend," she started. I sighed quietly, causing her to laugh a little. "Okay, I know you resent the Reserve Course, but he's really important to me," she said.
"I just don't understand how you see them as anything more than scumbags," I laughed a bit.
"I'm being serious here, Komaeda-san!" She said, though there was still a smile on her face. "He means a lot to me. He doesn't even want to go here," she looked off into space. "The only reason he's in the Reserve Course is because of his dad," she said. "If he had the choice, he'd be at any other normal school. He knows that being in the Reserve Course is seen as shameful, so just, please don't treat him any differently than someone you would see on the street," Nanami-san looked back at me. I sighed, biting my lip as I thought about it. "I'll even let you say whatever you want about yourself for the night!"
"...Fine," I muttered. She held her hand out for me to shake. I did so, sealing the deal.
"Thanks so much Komaeda-san!" She giggled. "Oh, one more thing-"
"You love him, right?" I asked, curling a lock of hair around my finger, trying to appear I didn't care. In reality, I didn't want Nanami-san to be stolen away by someone else. I know it's selfish of me, but she's really the only person I felt a great connection with. She's... my best friend.
"You got me," she laughed a bit, though it was breathy and nervous. "Don't tell him though," she said.
"Alright," I smiled. "I hope you get together, then. Though of course, who wouldn't want to be with my beautiful friend Nanami-san?" She laughed a bit and rolled her eyes. "Oh, and if he breaks your heart, I'll be holding grudges," I kept my smile.
"Ugh, Komaeda-san!" She laughed. "You're lucky you're my friend!" I laughed a bit as well.
"Truly the only thing I'm good for," I said.
