Chapter Fourteen

"I see Doctor Meyers tomorrow and he should release me to travel back to Texas. I need to see Russell Hewitt before leaving but other wise we can schedule a day to return," Edie was telling the ladies while they were having a real English Tea in the hotel dining room that consisted of scones with strawberry preserves and clotted cream along with an array of dainty sandwiches and various pastries.

The men had elected to forgo the tea and went instead to the bar to partake of a little stronger beverage then tea.

"I understand the three architects will be traveling back with us," Sam said.

"Yes they are," Edie replied.

"Have you selected the plans for the houses and Meriwether Publishing's building yet?" Blythe asked then took a bite from her scone.

"Yes, it is very similar to the first one I liked but we made a few changes to both the inside and outside of the building and since none of my employees have more then three children I selected three different plans all with four bedrooms. Have them show you the plans when we travel back."

"I wonder what the people of Scottsville will think about what you have planned for the town," Alyssa said.

"We I guess we should tell them although none of this will be built in the town it's self since Luke said I could have fifty acres of the ranch to build on nearest the town which would still be about thirty minutes away," Edie replied. "I'm not even sure they have a mayor or a town council to know who to inform."

"Oh they do," Sam told her. "The mayor is a man named Edgar Converse but I have no idea who sits on the town council there. The sheriff is Chad Miller."

"I'm sure all that you plan on building will come as a surprise to them," Julie told her.

The talk soon drifted to other things like Edwina announcing that she, Steve and Rand would be leaving next year in June to return to England for about six months and she really wasn't looking forward to it but they needed to see to a few things and didn't have much choice about the matter.

Blythe made the biggest announcement thought informing them that she and Nate were expecting another child around March of next year and they were hoping this time for a little girl but would take whatever the Lord gave them.

Once the tea was over the ladies were returning to their suites with Penny going with Edwina to see pictures of their estates there in England that Edwina returned with.

Edie wasn't in her suite long before a she heard a knock on her door. Making sure she had the little derringer in her pocket before answering to find Detective Burton standing there.

"I have news for you about Edward Winston," he told her and Edie stepped aside to allow him to enter.

"Have you found him?" she asked as they took seats.

"We know where he's gone off to," Burton told her. "He sailed the very afternoon Mr. Wilson and the others ejected your uncle from the house. He's landed in England but from there we have no idea where he went. I have the police there looking for him. We also found his coach driver and he told us that Winston let your uncle off at the train station telling us he overheard your uncle telling Winston he was going to Canada."

"But he didn't," Edie said.

"No since we fished his body out of the East River," Burton replied.
