Colleen's POV

I sprinted up the stairs as fast as my legs could carry me.

My mom can not see me naked alone with Josh! I kept telling myself as I flew up our staircase.

The second I heard Josh open the door I slammed our bedroom door shut and threw on my Dumbo onesie as fast as I could before my mom came up to say hello.

I fell back on our soft bed, out of breath. I lay there quietly for longer than I should have before I decided I should get up and say a quick hello to my mom. I walked down the stairs quietly and saw my mom still standing in the doorway talking to Josh.

"Morning honey!" My mom ran over to hug me. Josh gave me a quiet thumbs up from behind her back.

"Morning momma! How did the girls behave themselves last night?" I hugged her back.

"Very well! They definitely enjoyed time with the cousins!"

"Well Thanksgiving is coming up! We'll get to see the whole family soon!" I screamed excitedly when I remembered.

"Oh yes! We need to start planning that!" My mom laughed.

"Well tell Dad I said hi and that I miss him! And yes definitely start planning!"

We said our last goodbyes and soon enough my mom was on her way back to Santa Barbara. When the door closed behind her Josh and I high fives and started laughing at our good fortune.

"I can't believe your mom almost saw you naked, alone with me!" Josh chuckled.

"Ew no mom!" Georgia screamed.

At the moment I was trying to get her to try Josh's famous kale chips. She was slapping my hand away and flailing around in her chair.

"That's nasty!" She argued.

"Hey!" Josh said and clutched his heart dramatically.

"Fine daddy," Georgia sighed, "I'll try it for you,"

She the. Proceeded to shove it all in her mouth and finish the rest of the plate on her own.

"Now what did mommy say?" I said proudly.

"They're only okay!" She screamed defensively.

"Okay," I laughed at her spunky behavior.

"Can we get a cat?" Lily said out of nowhere.

We just finished our family discussion.

Apparently we were getting on cat... Tomorrow.

The things I agree to when it comes to my family. We were heading to Santa Barbara to get it from a shelter there. We put the girls to bed early so we could leave early tomorrow morning.

Josh and I crawled into bed and he fell asleep instantly.

I stared up at the ceiling and just thought. Too deep. Soon I was feeling sad and confused and I had no idea why. When Josh's arms tightened around me I decided to sleep. I fell asleep in seconds.

I tripped into my closet.

Good job Colleen, graceful.

I threw on a floral sundress and my "hipster" cardigan. I did my hair and teeth, washed my face, and did my make up. I was actually putting an effort into my looks today. I figured it was a special enough day!

The girls were up at the crack of dawn ready for "kitty time"

We made cereal and fruit for a quick and effortless breakfast and then I got the girls ready.

Their hair I put up in ponytails and I gave them their matching blue sundresses to wear. Lastly I put on my favorite part... Their cowgirl boots!!! They were brown boots that I was absolutely dying to get them for the girls the moment I saw them in the store.

They ran down the stairs hand in hand and skipped to the car.

"They're so dang cute!" I squealed.

"Yes they are," Josh laughed at me.

We just walked into the shelter.

The second the cold air hit my skin I sighed in relief... It was scorching out!

"Hello! Welcome to the Humane Society! How may I help you?" A kind woman with bright green eyes approached me and shook my hand.

"I'm great! We're here for a cat! Our girl decided it was time for a pet,"

"Perfect! It's not kitten season so I'm hoping you're okay with an older cat!"

"Yes that's fine! We'd like one that's very family and kid friendly. We have a lot of kids in our family," I chuckled.

"Very good! We have a couple options that fit your choosing!" She then led us over to a row of cages holding a ton, and I mean a ton, of cats.

"Here we have Muffin, she's a brown tabby and is family rated. What do you think?"

"Can we see a couple others too? Before we choose?" Josh asked.

"Of course!" She continued to show us 4 more suitable cats before she turned a corner into a quieter part of the shelter. Until this point the girls had been silent just nodding at the things we were saying and learning.

We then were faced with one last cat. His name was Walter. Yes I said Walter.

"This is Walter! He's just a white pure bred. He's one of the friendliest cats I've personally ever met but he's been here for almost 2 years! Nobody wants to adopt him!" She said with sad laced in her voice.

"I want him!" Lily screamed and pointed at Walter.

"No I want him!" Georgia argued like they were competing for him.

"How about you both get him!" I offered.

"Yes, yes, yes!"

So later that day we drove home with what the girls now called, Wally.
