"This one," Luke decides. We go on a few more steps before he stops again.

"This one," But he keeps on walking until...

"This one!"

He stops and holds up his index finger triumphantly. The triumph faded away at the sight of my disdainful face.

"That's your eighth 'This One', Luke," I remind him.

"Yeah, but I'm sure that it's This One!" He sounded ecstatic, like a puppy given his favourite kind of dog biscuits. I followed puppy Luke in.

"Yes!" he whisper-shouts at me. "This is it!"

"It's a convenience store," I deadpan.

He motions for me to enter.

"HANDS IN THE AIR!" Luke barks, putting Backbiter to the clerk's neck.

The old man whimpers and backs away. I smirked at the sight of him cowering. "Don't shoot," he frantically pleads. "I-I-I'll give you all the money you w-want, but p-p-please... don't shoot! I have kids at home, an-, an-..."

"Yeah, just SHUT UP and put the money in the bag!" Luke growls. The old clerk bobs his head vehemently, then slams the counter open and puts a fistful into the outstretched bag.

"Good. Let's skedaddle," Luke sheathes his sword and jerks his head toward the door. We exit, leaving behind a whimpering mess of a man.

Or so I thought.

The clerk pulls a real gun out of somewhere, and quick as lightning shoots Luke.

BANG

I watch in absolute horror as my best friend, my only friend, plummets to the floor in despair.

"LUKE!" I shriek. "LUKE! LUUUUUKE!"

BANG

BANG

BANG

He's firing at me.

He's firing at me.

He killed Luke.

I will wring his neck.

Gleaming bullets shatter in midair. Four fridges of sodas and juices explode. My subconscious takes over.

The clerk drops his gun in shock. Every internal organ in his body pops like an overinflated balloon. Every last drop of his blood rips out of his bloodstream and splatters across the walls, leaving him a deadweight mass of mangled bones. His face will forever be contorted in acute consternation like a Medusa victim. Like a spoil of war, his left eyeball rolls to my feet.

The entire block, including the people, has been reduced to mush.

What have I done?
