Nina's mind was in chaos. After hearing about the destruction of the human race, her whole being wanted to help. However, her body refused to move, her eyes closed tightly, hands holding tightly onto the sides of the bed.
"You're doing well," a familiar voice whispered, "don't stress so much."
Nina opened her eyes, looking up to see the figure in her dream. Her eyes widened, she stood up quickly, moving towards the figure.
Her heart skipped a beat when she saw her face. The man before her smiled.
"I'm glad you're still asleep," he said, moving forward as if to hug her.
She jumped back, her eyes widening even further.
"Nina?" the man said, a concerned look in his eyes.
Her hand raised to touch his cheek, "Who are you?"
The man froze, looking shocked, his hand lifted up to grab onto hers. His grip loosened.
"What do you mean? I am your husband, remember? Don't worry I won't hurt you anymore," he said, his smile fading slowly.
Nina moved backward a bit, "That's not possible...you....you died..."
He shook his head, confused, "What happened?"
Nina's eyes looked down, tears forming.
His frown deepened, "Nina," his hand went to hold her cheek softly, forcing her to look up at him, "what's wrong?"
His tone was worried, and filled with anger.
She shook her head, crying quietly now.
The man's brows furrowed, "Please tell me," his grip tightened, "Why won't you trust me again?"
She blinked several times rapidly, "It's a lot to explain, especially after hearing what's going on," she mumbled.
He pulled away a little, his hand dropping, "Then please explain this to me first."
Nina swallowed nervously, "Okay," she paused briefly, "We were fighting in the forest, we were separated. We ran into each other while trying to keep our friends safe," she hesitated again, "There was a sudden loud noise, and I fell. You caught me but..." she stopped once more, swallowing harshly.
The man sighed loudly, "You don't have to say anything else if you don't want to, but I'd really like to know what happened afterwards," he paused.
Nina nodded, taking a deep breath before continuing, "I fell down a hill, you carried me out, and we met a lot of other creatures on the way to get help," she paused.
The man stared at her, eyes wide.
"They told us we were lucky because of the fact that we didn't fall down very far. I didn't feel lucky," she sighed heavily, "but they did manage to bring me back to the camp. They were able to help a lot," her gaze dropped down to the ground, tears forming once more.
She wiped her cheeks, looking back up at him.
His expression softened as he held her, "Come on, why would I hurt you?" he asked, "I promise you, whatever I did, I didn't mean it," he paused, "Right?"
Her hand covered his, her lower lip trembling, she nodded slightly, squeezing his hand.
His lips curved upward.
He released her hand, grabbing her chin gently with his thumb and forefinger, tilting her head up so she would look at him.
He tilted her head up so their faces were inches apart.
His smile faded a bit, "Nina."
She stared at his blue eye.
"Look at me."
She shook her head lightly, tears falling faster now it wasn't Nina's husband it was a Demon . She looked away.
His expression darkened, "I will never hurt you again, I swear it."
A tear slipped out, she took a shaking breath before lifting her head back to him, nodding her head.
He smiled warmly.
She wiped her tears.
"Now," he grabbed both of her hands, "You need to tell me all those things I should know."
She stared at their intertwined hands.
"I love you."
She blushed.
"And I would kill anyone who hurts you,"
She frowned.
He sighed deeply.
"If you can't trust me, if you don't believe me, I will have to kill you"
She jerked.
"And the people I love are always safe as long as I'm alive, right?"
She shook her head.
He nodded, "I understand."
"But-"
He squeezed her hands, giving her an 'I don't care' expression, "Don't worry about anything else, only me. Right?"
Tears fell once more from her eyes.
He gave her another soft look, stroking her cheeks, "I'll protect you," his thumb wiped away the stray tear from her cheek, "From the monsters who might try to hurt you."
"I don't know if I should believe you or not," she choked out, her face flushing more.
He grinned, nodding his head a bit, "It's alright if you don't."
She leaned in closer, kissing him softly, before pulling back.
The man kissed her back just as softly, "As long as we're together, nothing in the world can harm us,"
