It had been a week after I punched Mulciber in his ugly face, and I was surely getting some dirty looks from the Slytherin house, especially those who were closest to him. I wasn't hearing the end of the situation because some students who knew what happened, or had just assumed that he punched me because I rejected him, was gossiping about it in the corridors.
That was by far my favourite interpretation of events, I would indeed have rejected any advances made by Mulciber. The speculation was from Alexandra Wang telling her friend, who told Evelyn Green, who told Dorcas, who told Lily, who asked me if that was true. The truth obviously got mixed up in the process.
"Wait, tell me again, you went up to Mulciber without knowing if it was him that cast the curse and still punched him?" Lily asked, bewildered. I weighed the situation between telling the truth and a lie, and made a noncommittal noise of agreement with her question.
Lily dropped her shoulders and sighed, "What am I going to do with you Athena?" I grinned and put an arm around her shoulders; revelling in the look of annoyance she gave me, "You love me really don't you Lils?" She raised an eyebrow, but I saw the small smile.
"ATHENA YOU RATBAG YOU DIDN'T WAIT FOR ME AT LUNCH!" I didn't need to look to see who was shouting. I knew that it was Sirius. I turned around with a look of hurt and said quietly, "Sirius Black you arsehole. YOU DIDN'T WAIT FOR ME AT BREAKFAST!" He looked me in the eyes seriously, until we both grinned.
Even years after, I still don't know why it was funny at all, but suddenly I loved and treasured that unsuspecting moment. Both Lily and Remus had looked at us both in concern, and that made it all the better.
"Come on Athena, it's Transfiguration. We'll be late if you keep talking to him," Lily voiced and I gave Sirius and Remus one last smile and a wave, following in her footsteps and shouting towards her, "Lils did we have homework due today?" She just ignored me and I saw her shoulders betray her, a small laugh escaping her lips.
Transfiguration was quite uninteresting that day, probably because it seemed that McGonagall was just going over things we'd learnt this year and telling us all about the examination process, even though it was still like four or five months away. It also turned out we did have homework due, and for every person that forgot or didn't meet the 2 page assignment, there was 2 points taken off their house.
We had that class with Hufflepuff, and I felt sorry for them every time a point was taken away - twice. Funnily enough, I felt no remorse for the Gryffindors who forgot their homework because the only ones that did was the two unruly boys (three guesses who), myself and Mary.
McGonagall was not at all happy that four people from her own house had forgotten their homework, and when she asked for the reasons, there was a good many excuses and mine was the most used but the normal-est one, "It was today Professor? I thought it was next week. Oh well, can I give you it tomorrow?" She didn't take it.
When the school day was finished and it was dinner, me and the boys all sat together at the back of the table, and the other girls in my dorm sat at the other end near the front. I started a conversation with Peter about Potions, and we both complained about how we was ever going to remember all of the ingredients. Especially in a Forgetfulness potion, when the key ingredient for that is that we always forget.
We talked and laughed, and complained over chicken and beef, and then chocolate pudding, cake and pumpkin juice.
"Rock paper scissors you for it?" James asked. Me and Peter turned towards the conversation that we wasn't originally listening to, the other three boys were having and listened carefully trying to pick up the gist of it. "You can not have it I swear that is the last time I'm ever telling you I have anything," Remus stated.
