Anilyse's POV

The door rattled some more and fear shot through my body. I froze, unable to move, unable to think. He turned the knob and, after a moments pause, wrenched the door open with a bang. It collided against the wall and came to a stop back at my brother.

"So you are back," He said with a hoarse voice. He seemed to pause, waiting for my reply, but when I had none to give he went on.

"You've been busy, I see," my brother noted, taking in the eggs and the hatchling. I still did not reply. In fact I scarcely breathed, in case it would set off my brother. He has unusual breaking points.

He waited some more, almost desperate for a reply. The silence soon became suffocating. "Oh, come on Anilyse!" He finally snapped, anger hardening his voice, "It has been weeks! Would you stop acting like a brat and grow up some?"

Anger blazed through me at that. It was almost like a wildfire, and my blood the fuel. My spine snapped straight and stiffened, while I squeezed the hatchling until it squeaked. But I still did not reply.

Annoyance crossed his face. "Whatever," he muttered, finally giving up, "take these vile creatures away! Throw them outside for all I care," At that I paused, blinking. 'What?' The question rang throughout my head. He strode over to the pile of eggs, and kicked one!

"Stop," I screamed at him, "what in the world are you doing?!?" Running over, I gathered all the eggs carefully in my arms again.

"AHAHAHAHAHA!!" His maniacal laugh echoed across the room, "So it takes me hurting another to finally get you to talk to me?"

"So what if I don't want to talk to you," I finally snapped, "You are not very good company. After what you and our -"

"Shut up!" He barked at me, "Shut the fuck up, you whore. You don't even know what you are talking about!"

"Ha! Don't I? You all explained that to me well enough, as I recall..." After staring into his face for a moment, I scoffed and turned away. "This is why I hate men! Overbearing, self righteous, think they know -"

His glare stopped me mid rant. "About that," he growled and grabbed my thin arm, squeezing it painfully, "do you think I wouldn't find out? Do you even know how embarrassing it is to find out my sister talked down to men? I was at the pub for goodness sake!" While he was growling at me, I smelled alcohol on his breath. Fear coursed through me once again, and I whimpered softly. My brother is a scary man sober. Drunk, he is a monster!

"You humiliated me! Those were the governor's men!" Raising his hand to hit me, I cringed away, fearing the pain. I know what is coming and you'd think I would be used to it by now, for it has happened many time before. But I'm not. Squeezing my eyes shut, I waited. And waited. And waited.
