The Anniversary

No one's POV

(Y/n) and her family had been back in Plainview for almost a month now and she was finally getting into a routine to help get settled.

(Y/n)'s POV

Things have been ok, I mean I've made two great friends, CJ and Beatrice, and got a cool job working with Bea at her dad's dinner. I'm still kinda annoyed though, because my Jeep is still being transported down here. So I've just been riding my bike or carpooling with CJ and Bea.

I've been sitting on my floor on hold with the fucking car moving company for like half an hour now. Out of sheer boredom I glanced out my window to peek into Rodrick's room. I know I yelled at him for doing that but like I was changing and currently he's just sitting on his bed reading some dirty magazine.

Talk about gross.

Then I heard the door bell go off. Shit. I looked at my phone and bit my lip. Do I leave it here and risk them hanging up because I'm not there, or do I bring it and suffer through listening to this awful music?

"Ugh fuck this," I hung up the phone reminding myself to call again later. The door bell went off again as I left my room. "JUST A SECOND!" I called as I jogged down the stairs.

I opened the door and Mr Heffely was standing there looking nervous. I frowned slightly. Wasn't he meant to be at work?

"Uh, Mr Heffely. Hi, did you need something?" I asked still frowning slightly. This is like mega weird.

"I'm so sorry for bothering you (Y/n), but um I need a favour..." Uhhhh do I want to know where this is going?

"Um ok? What's up?" If I get any creepy vibes I'm slamming this door shut and calling his wife!

"Well you see. Susan and I, it's our wedding anniversary this weekend," oh thank god. "And I've been so busy planning a surprise weekend get away for the two of us, I kind of forgot to organise someone to watch the boys..." Oh I get it now.

"You want me to babysit?" I asked blankly. "Wait why can't Rodrick do it, I mean he's older than me." Mr Heffely's gaze darkened.

"Last time we left him in charge for the weekend he threw a party and roped Greg into helping," he said. I had to cover my mouth to suppress a giggle.

"Um so what exactly do I have to do?" I asked after I stopped laughing. Mr Heffely smiled with relief.

"Well we'd be leaving Saturday morning and won't be back until late Sunday night maybe even Monday morning," he started. Aw he's so sweet to Susan! "You'd mostly just be looking after Manny, but make sure Greg doesn't spend the whole weekend in his room and make sure he goes to sleep." I nodded, this is pretty standard stuff to be honest.

"Is that all?" I asked.

"No," Mr Heffely sighed. "You're also going to have to stop Rodrick from throwing a party." Wait what?! How am I meant to do that!

"But Mr Heffely how the hell am I meant to do that!?" I exclaimed dumbfounded. I can barely get through a dinner at their house let alone stop emo boy from throwing some rager!

"(Y/n) I'm going to let you in on something," Mr Heffely said anxiously. "Rodrick is a stupid teenage boy, just put on some feminine charm and he'll listen to your every word, but I doubt you'll need to considering how you use to boss him around when you two were kids." I gulped nervously.

"I don't know Mr Heffely..." I said chewing my nails.

"Look if anything does wrong threaten to call me or Susan," he said. I still wasn't entirely convinced and he could see it on my face. "I was going to offer to pay you $300, but I'll give you $450 to keep Rodrick out of trouble." This man is actually bribing me with money. I mean it's working but still!

I sighed giving in and accepted. He gave me a quick hug and thanked me a lot before telling me to get to their house at about 4:45 on Saturday.

I shut the door after he drove off and walked back up to my room. I sat on my bed and called Bea's dad to let him know that I'd be babysitting this weekend and that I might be late to my Sunday shift. No way I'm cancelling on him after he was nice enough to give me that job! Plus it's fun.

I looked back at my window and saw Rod-dick on the phone. Looks like a pretty heated argument, probably his dad.

I sighed before flopping on my bed and staring up at the ceiling. This is gonna be a long weekend...

Short one today! I'll probably post a longer one later. Also y'all will get to meet CJ and Beatrice and I hope you guys like them 💕
