"Why the fuck am I doing this again?" My tolerance was growing extremely thin. Crawling on my hands and knees for what felt like an eternity.
"We need to hack Global's security cameras," Clover said through the ear piece. Global Industries was approximately six hundred and sixty-three feet in the air. Sixty- eight fucking floors and instead of walking through the front door like a civilized human being, I had to stuff myself in an air vent.
More crawling.
"You're almost there," She said for the fourth time.
More crawling.
"It's right below you."
The of light of the security room shone from below me. I grabbed my nail file from my hand bag and started unscrewing the bolts from the vent. I peeked my head out just a bit, only two guards were in the room. Easy.
I reached for my handbag again and took out koggy . My very own, specially made knock out gas. Contained in a tiny, pink diamond spray bottle. One spray had a range of about three feet.
"Alright koggy, do your magic." I gave it a little kiss then sprayed. In a matter of seconds the men were out cold. I dropped down from the air vent . Side stepping the unconscious bodies , I inserted Clover's flash drive inside a USB port.
She guided me through the hacking. God she made this shit look easy.
It wasn't fucking easy.
"Perfect , you're a natural born hacker." I'll just stick to killing people.
"Find me another way out of this place," I told her. I looked up at the air vent; I refuse to go back up there. I left the security room and stood out in the hallway.
"You could try the roof. Bakers' Insurance Company is right next to Global, you could jump across."
I thought for a minute. Global was more than six hundred feet tall, I leaned against one of the large glass windows. Bakers' Insurance didn't look anywhere close to that height.
I'd have to jump.
That's a long way down.
A long possibly painful way down.
"Um... Yeah no, lets not do that."
Clover laughs . "I never would've taken you for a pussy Vee," she said between giggles.
I'm not a pussy, nor am I Superman.
"You come jump off this building then," I said "There's an elevator down the hall I'm taking it."
She warned to be careful. I don't need her to tell me what to do. I already know what to and I've been doing it very well these last few years. Be invisible.
I got on the elevator and pressed the ground floor button. Then it occurred to me, if leaving was so easy I should've done this earlier.
Clover.
Anger and annoyance came to a hault as the elevator stopped. A young girl walked in from the sixth floor. She wore a bright floral print dress with matching shoes. Her hair was elegantly wrapped in a bun and her eyes were as brown as milk chocolate.
Her eyes widened as she saw me "Fairy!," she shreeked.
Terror , I felt pure terror as she inched closer to me. I braced against the elevator wall, clung to it for protection. STAY BACK!
"Stay back!" I demanded. Her arms opened wide to embrace me, a large grin plastered on her face. My skin burnt from the contact, every fibre in my body screamed bloody murder as the child wrapped her tiny arms around my legs. My 5'8 frame towering over her. I hated it.
"Fairy," she sighed softly. Okay, I don't hate it that much.
I shook my head, where were this kids parents? Why is it calling me a fairy ? Why won't it let go already?
"Alright kid," I said pulling her off me "That's enough hugging for one day." I squatted down to her level, holding her by the shoulders at arms length.
"I'm not a fairy," I added. She shook her head violently in disagreement .
"My mommy took me to Disney Land. And Tinker Bell was there and all her Fairy friends were there . Some had pink hair and red hair and yellow hair and green hair and purple hair and red hair..."
I groan.
"... And blue hair too," she squeaked.
Six months ago when I decided to change my hair colour from brown to a dark blue, it never occurred to me that something like this would happen.
Fairies have blue hair.
I have blue hair.
I must be a fairy.
Child logic.
"Listen kid, I'm not a fairy. I'm just different."
She shook her head, shouting "Fairy!" One more time, then lunged for my neck. Her arms wrapped around me like a python. Squeezing me, crushing me , killing me...
The elevator dinged. "Oh my god! Lucy I've been looking everywhere for you."
The child released me. Air! I could be breathe, thank god.
"Lucy come here," The poor kid reluctantly stepped off the elevator. "I'm so sorry , my daughter can be handful sometimes. Are you alright?" The older version of Lucy asked.
I'm pissed. I'm angry , I've never felt more violated. "I'm fine ," I tell her while stepping out.
The mother sighs with relief. "Lucy we're leaving now." Lucy looks at me with sad puppy dog eyes as her mother drags her away.
Fairy.
I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Who knows how many fairy obsessed kids could be around. I should've fucking jumped off the roof.
