silhouettesPrim didn't sleep that night.
She tried. But she couldn't.
It was early in the morning - the sun hadn't risen over the large buildings surrounding their own and it was pitch black outside. Just like that room. She felt isolated - too far away from Carol and Daryl to rest comfortably. But in reality they were only a few feet away in their beds as she sat on the couch. Her side was almost uncomfortably pressed against the armrest closer to them, knees to her chest like always as she rested her chin on top. Her mind raced, which wasn't anything unusual, and she was cold even though it was warm within the room.
She just stared ahead, at the wall across that room - or maybe it wasn't a wall, she couldn't really tell. It was too dark and her eyes were dizzy. Daryl and Carol were laid down on their separate bunks, sleeping away the exhaustion they had felt the past few days. Prim wanted to go wander around yet she knew she would risk the two waking up during her departure. She knew they - atleast Daryl, hadn't gotten a good nights sleep since atleast before the funeral home. Everything since the moment those walkers stumbled into their home had been running, running, and even more running.
And the second they thought they could find a safe place to sleep, to rest, decided to become another shot in the chest when that car drove past and they had to leave the church.
A creak in the untouched floorboard whispered past her ear. Her chin raised off of her knee, a fuzzy feeling pressing against the area. Prim turned her head to see Daryl standing near the door, the man paused in his steps as he had been looking at her curiously.
"Why aren't you sleeping?" He asked in more of a whisper, careful not to stir the grey haired woman in her bed awake. Prim blinked at him through the darkness.
"I slept in the car," she responded without much acknowledgement.
The man just sighed and left the room, leaving her to sit and stare at the darkness of maybe the wall like she didn't have a soul in her body. She stayed like that for hours, how many was unknown to her acknowledge and she didn't really care yet when the brush of a hand fell on her shoulder, everything came back. The girl flinched, head snapping up and towards Carol who had quickly retreated her hand, holding it to her heart with slightly widened eyes as if she had startled her.
Noticing this, Prim let her shoulders relax and her knees fell from her chest and into a criss crossed position. Instantly an ache fell to her torso and back and her legs were asleep and she then knew that she had been sitting in that position for a little too long. Her hands grabbed the couch cushions at either sides of her thigh and she cleared her throat weakly.
"I'm sorry -"
"- Sorry." Both she and Carol had spoken at the same time and both decided to brush it off. The older woman tried to speak in order to clear the awkward air. Her eyes raised from the uncomfortable brunette who was trying to stretch out her limbs given they felt like a million bricks were smooshing them and Carol looked around the room. "Have you seen where Daryl went?"
Prim's head rose and her eyes instantly trailed to the bottom bunk. She blinked, seeing the man standing there just for a brief second in the stance he had been when he spoke to her at midnight before she blinked again and midnight went away and the man did too. She shook her head, rolling out her eyebrows as she tried to gather her tiredness that had suddenly hit her like a truck.
