The date (Chapter 4)

     Ushijima was seething. he had recently forced himself to push the memory of you and Oikawa so openly flirting far into the back of his mind. He had figured that Oikawa would do with you what he did with most girls, drive them away because of his volleyball schedule. So, you could imagine his shock and anger when Tendou complained about you going off on a date with the idiotic setter. 

What was so great about Oikawa anyway? Sure, he's attractive, but so is Ushijima, even though Oikawa's fans were more out in the open with their attraction to him Ushijima was nearly as popular, finding a secret admirer letter in his locker was a common occurrence at this point and he would have to be blind to not notice the dozens of girls who watch him walk by while giggling with their friends. So, why would you choose to go with Oikawa?

Had Oikawa been blackmailing you into going out with him? Maybe he had one of your family members held hostage and forced you to go out with him. While that scenario is incredibly exaggerated and impossible, it still made more sense than you willingly wanting to spend more time with Oikawa, in Ushijima's mind at least.

Luckily for Ushijima, he learned the time and place of your date from Tendous whining; an arcade not too far away from Shiratorizawa. Even with this information though, what should he do? It isn't like he could barge right up to the both of you and tell you that you weren't allowed to be with Oikawa, that would only drive you further into the annoying setter's arms. He also couldn't show up with a date of his own, while he reveled in the thought of you being jealous that you couldn't be with him, he also knew this would make you think he was unavailable. 

After mulling over his options, Ushijima decided he would go to the arcade at the same time as you would... just out of sight. It isn't stalking, he just wants to make sure that you're safe is all, nothing strange about that, Right? 

His thoughts are cut off by the sound of his phone alarm going off. 'Shit..!'  It was almost time for your and Oikawa's date to start and Ushijimja wasn't even ready yet. Hurriedly, and very out of character, Ushijima searched his dresser for any clothes he could find. He was frantic, the sound of the small yellow clock in his room was ticking, laughing and mocking him as he struggled to get his shirt over his head. Finally done getting dressed Ushijima rushed out of the dorm and to the arcade.

He was late. By the time Ushijima had arrived at the arcade, a whole half hour had passed since you and Oikawa were supposed to meet up. Ushijima was filled with unease, what happened in that half hour he was gone? Had Oikawa done anything to you? He and the setter had a rough relationship, to say the least, Ushijima wouldn't be surprised if Oikawa tried to fill your mind with awful thoughts of him. "Ushiwaka is the worst" "You don't need a guy like him" "You have me now, sweetheart, forget about that bully". He had to find out, he had to see you and make sure you weren't being corrupted by that 'pretty boy'.
