"Classy, Alex. Very classy."
"I'm telling you the truth!"
"Oh I know. You always have. Even when you were making out with that girl-"
"That girl had a name!"
"Oh shut up. I can't trust you."Rachel was done with Alex. How could she have been so stupid? She gets on the bus and takes it to a children's store within Paris. A giraffe was perched atop a high shelf, but Rachel was tall. The giraffe was small in her hands, and very soft. She knew this was going to be a good gift. Rachel bought a crib, too. She had extra cash and knew that the baby would need a place to stay if they were going to be stuck in Paris. She tucked a 100 unit gift card in it, and got back on the bus to the hospital.
On her walk out, she noticed it was unusually cold. Like -10 Celsius. But she walked in, and requested for Lauren.
"Hi, how did everything go?"
"Great. Meet Graceland Anne McCarthy."
"She's perfect."
Rachel set down the gifts and looked at the baby. It was so small.
"I got you a crib, since we might be here a while. And a gift card for baby stuff. I don't know what babies need."
"Thank you. Lauren gets released in an hour, since she seems to be doing okay."
"Oh, and my- partner- is going to help out. His name is Sam."
Lauren's husband nodded. She took the crib and giraffe over to her house, and opened a door down the hall. In it was a king sized bed with a crib, and all sorts of baby necessities. This house truly had everything.
Rachel went to go return the crib, and Sam called.
"Hey- do you mind if I crash at your place? I need a place to stay while my mom and her family stay at my house. She never told me exactly how long she was staying- but they're having financial issues."
"Sure. Let yourself in. My sister is going to be staying at my place too."
"No, then. I'll stay at mine. It's not going to be such a big deal."
"Okay, maybe another night."
"Okay. I love you."
"I know."
I hung up the phone and took a deep breath. I really shouldn't have said that.
