9 days later.
Nyiah and Dave had been at the hospital everyday with Kairi, with occasional visits from Demani and Zachariah.
The only thing they knew was that Kairi had took a hard fall, nothing about Dave and Nyiah being kidnapped, or it being related to Kairi or their mothers death.
Dave had barely spoken a word to anybody, frowning himself in sadness, smoking everyday so that he didn't feel anything.
The two of them hadn't gotten much of any sleep. Dave wasn't sleeping because he physically could not sleep with his daughter laying in a hospital bed. Nyiah hadn't slept because she didn't want to leave Dave by himself, scared of what he'd do.
She hadn't pressured him to say anything, letting him grieve the way he did, and continuously letting him know that she was there for him.
She'd been trying to get him to eat, to take a nap, to rest for even just 5 minutes. The only thing he could bring himself to do was shower, and that was because he could cry without feeling weak in front of Nyiah.
He was trying so hard to hold on, but Kairi was getting worse by the day, having a few, at the least, seizures a day. Dave couldn't do anything but watch, and that's what hurt him the most.
So much was happening to his little girl, to the people around him because of the things he involved himself in. He felt like all of this was his fault, and in a way, he definitely played a major part in the latest events in his life.
Nyiah and Dave had been spending the days cuddling with each other on the couch next to Kairi's bed, not wanting to go home and leave her up here by herself.
Nyiah had been on Dave's side every step of the way, giving him words of encouragement every so often, and his love for her grew every second.
Although he hadn't spoke much to her, he never failed to tell her that he loved her with every bone in his body. He wouldn't know where he'd be without her.
She was his life support and didn't even know it. He felt so bad for bringing so much on everybody around him, but Nyiah never put the blame on him in any of the situations, and he was so thankful for that.
Nyiah was currently sitting on the couch, her long bundles thrown up into a bun as she sipped from her cup of coffee. She'd probably had over 20 cups within the last week.
She watched as Dave stood over Kairi, no emotion on his face, and no tears as he watched Kairi have yet another seizure.
The doctors told them it was a side effect of the trauma done to her brain, and that they would fade on their own. They instructed Dave and Nyiah to let Kairi ride them out, that there was nothing they could do but hold her through the process.
Nyiah wrapped her arms around him from behind, laying her head on his back, listening to him breathe as Kairi calmed down.
"Ima take her off." He rasped, and Nyiah frowned.
