In a city filled with superheroes, there was never a dull moment to be found because where there were heroes, there were inevitably villains. Everyone in Brawn possessed a power to some degree. Those with grandiose powers, or at the very least grandiose egos, took the hero track to join the Saviours. A team of Heroes tasked with keeping peace in the city and protecting the lives of its residents.

Everyone else? Well they just went about their normal everyday lives. Some used their powers to aid them in their chosen field of work, while others preferred not to use them at all.

Then there were the villains. Those who chose to revel in chaos, using their powers for evil and disruption.

Nora, a medical intern, is just hoping to finally meet her soulmate. Not for her world to come crashing down around her.

Nora dropped her phone back on to its charging plate, though she froze before she could fall back into her nest of pillows. Her soulmate clock had changed. Yesterday it had told her it would still be years before she met her match, but right now it said thirty seconds and counting.

What? This couldn't be right, could it? Was her match coming to her apartment to deliver something? She definitely wasn't expecting anyone! Nora flung the covers back with a gasp as she realised that if she didn't try to get changed right this second she was going to end up meeting her soulmate while wearing her fuzzy, teal llama pyjamas. Oh no. That definitely wouldn't do. She hadn't even brushed her teeth!

25 seconds left.

Jamming her feet into her fluffy slippers – also llamas – Nora dashed across the room to her wardrobe before changing her mind, deciding it would be worse to meet her soulmate with morning breath than it would in fuzzy llama pyjamas.

20 seconds left.

In her small bathroom across the hall, Nora grabbed the mouthwash and wrenched the lid off so hard that it pinged across the room, bouncing loudly in the bath tub until it rolled to a stop in the drain. Leaving it where it was, she poured the mouthwash directly into her mouth and started to swoosh it around her mouth.

10 seconds left.

The alcohol in the mouthwash burned her tongue and not for the first time, Nora found herself wishing that she could use her power on herself to numb her tongue. Or maybe she should just finally switch to alcohol free mouthwash. Either way, she currently had a mouth full of regret.

She rinsed with it for as long as she dared, gargling noisily before spitting it into the sink and scrubbing her face with the hand towel beside the basin.

Never in any of her day dreams about meeting her soulmate had she imagined that it would go anything like this. Why couldn't she have had the perfect meet cute like the couple in the park the night before?

5 seconds left.

She didn't have time to put in her contacts, so she was forced to go back to the bedroom to retrieve her glasses – lest she wanted her soulmate to be kind of blurry around the edges the first time she met them. The clear frames were where she'd left them on top of the book she'd been reading the night before, and it was as she slid them into place on the bridge of her nose that it happened.

At the exact same time that the counter on her wrist hit zero (she'd been watching it and waiting to hear for a knock at the door), her bedroom wall exploded inwards and Nora screamed as a caped man was flung against her wardrobe, the wood splintering from the force of him and most of the debris colliding with it.

Her body froze and for once she did feel as if she'd been numbed by her own power, but once the shock had passed, Nora rushed to the hero's side.

"Are you okay?" She asked, already drawing on her numbing power to help him as she helped him into a sitting position.

"You have to go before it's too late." He told her, shoving her towards the door with a grunt of pain. Nora stumbled a few steps before making her way back to him.

"You're hurt, I can help you!" Nora crossed the distance between them again, and when the hero batted her hands away, she let out an exasperated sigh. "Stop it! I can help you with the pain."

"And I need you to stop being so stubborn and leave!" The hero growled, gripping one of Nora's wrists when she was close enough and shoving her away with it. "It's not safe for civillians to be here right now, theres-!"

"But you're my soulmate! I'm not leaving you, not when we just found each other!" Nora shouted at him, trying to get it through his thick head that she wasn't just going to abandon him when he was in pain.

"He's not your soulmate." A voice from behind her said, and Nora turned in time to watch a Villain step in through the gaping hole in her bedroom wall. "I am."
