Theo was finally feeling like he was starting to trust Nora. Especially after she had helped him with his arm when he had been injured. Part of him also hoped that she was starting to trust him, too. She no longer flinched away or cringed when he came into a room and they had been spending more and more time together.
Of course, it hadn't lasted for more than a few minutes.
He'd be lying if he said that he hadn't been hurt when Nora had accused him of carrying out evil deeds because he was a villain. From her perspective, that was obviously what it looked like but there was far more to it than that. He just couldn't tell her what it was yet. It wasn't time. But it might be soon, if they kept working on their burgeoning soulmateship.
They were both stubborn, and after a few days Theo had decided that if they were going to try and move past this spat, then he was going to have to make the first move to do so.
He remembered from earlier conversations with her while they'd been cooking together that one of her favourite things to eat was spicy Korean chicken. So that was going to be his peace offering. He'd researched the recipe and left early this morning so he could pick up all of the ingredients.
Admittedly it had taken him longer than he had expected to do so, and he was half wishing that he had kept on that stupid sling because for as much as it was annoying as heck, it had helped a lot. A shot of Nora's numbing power just to take the last bit of aching away wouldn't have gone amiss either.
Arms full of bags, he summoned a portal and stepped straight out into the kitchen, starting to lay everything out on the counter tops. It was quiet, but that wasn't anything new. Nora didn't play any music, and mostly tended to read books when he wasn't there.
It hadn't occurred to him that maybe she didn't know how to use his sound system... or that she even knew she was allowed to use it at all. He'd have to tell her she could, and show her how it worked.
Looking at everything on the counter and consulting the recipe once more, Theo toyed with the idea of going and fetching Nora and asking if she wanted to help him make this, but if he was making it FOR her, then he really couldn't justify making her help, could he?
Pushing down on a panel on the counter, Theo tapped a few buttons on the tablet computer that popped up and soon, soft jazz filled the kitchen.
He hummed as he worked, preparing the fryer and getting the chicken ready to go in. While he waited for the oil to heat up, he prepared the vegetables and got started on the spicy sauce.
Nora didn't come out of her room the whole time he was cooking, which he thought was a bit weird. Most of the time when she smelled food, she came looking, like a curious cat. Though for the past few days she had been avoiding him, so he supposed it wasn't all that weird that she hadn't come out yet.
It took him a while to get it all done, but eventually he had plated up the chicken for them both, topping it off with sesame seeds and some spring onion to garnish. Trying a piece, he groaned with satisfaction at the flavour. Damn. Why hadn't he ever tried this before?
With the food ready and the kitchen pretty much tided as he went along, he really had no reason not to go and talk to his soulmate slash roommate any longer.
Taking a deep breath, he headed to her door and knocked.
There was no answer.
"Nora?"
Still nothing.
Was she really so stubborn that she was straight up going to ignore him knocking on her door?
"Nora?" He tried knocking one more time before trying the handle, wondering if she had fallen asleep reading one of his books. It wasn't the first time and it almost certainly wouldn't be the last time.
